Help - is my rendering that bad - (Johnstone's Silicone)?

Hi,

Last year we got our new extension and remainder of our house re-rendered. However I noticed some uneven patches in the render, its not really the colour, more the texture that is making it stand out, i'm told that its where the render has been to thinly applied(?).

The company that did the rendering originally said that they would come back to top coat the front again, but have since gone quiet, I still owe them money (under 1k) and they still need to come back to top coat the lower portion of one side of the house which isnt really visible (the base coat has been done).

My question is, is it that bad a job or should i just forget about it and keep the few hundred that i've kept back?

Says it all that there not rushing to get back to finish it and collect the bucket of said you owe them still.
 
Do you think it's a bad job?
Who's told you it's not good. Have you looked at it and realised its not great or are you happy enough but someone's pointed it out. For the record. It's not a good job at all. 2 thin scraped back to the first coat by looks it.
 
I know it's a personal question but we don't know you so how much did it cost and what was the procedure?

Basically I noticed it when the scaffold came down, some spots look fine others, like above the door don't look good at all.

So to get this fixed they would need to clean and apply another layer of top coat? Is it that easy?

So, here's what they put on the quote and what they did...

Remove the existing render
Clean and read aid

Re render with Johnstones stormshield high performance basecoat

One coat with anti crack mesh
2nd coat sponges for flatness

Primer coat

Finished in enhanced silicone

This was to do the front and sides (one full side and one top half side) of the house.

Came to approx £4400. But as I said, not all paid yet.

So I guess my choices are

  1. Leave as is and forget about it
  2. Get them back to fix - would another topcoat fix it? (I don't think painting would work as I think it's the texture rather than colour)
  3. Get someone else to fix it!

so basically looking at the photos you’ve posted you’ve had your whole house done which as Tom said is probably around 80 metres, let’s assume there’s no vat included. Let’s allow £20m2 for materials which include temporary protection for floors, doors, windows, soffits ect, substrate primer, angle n drip beads, grab adhesive for beads, base coat, reinforcement mesh, pre finish primer and of course texture top coat. That leaves now £35m2 we now need to take out the cost of scaffold let’s allow £10m2(£800) we’ve now got £25m2 left which is £2000 but we still need to account for waste removal which for 80m2 would be x2 8 yard skips @ £200 each. Now we’re left with £1600 and things are getting tight because for £1600 your 2 Renderer’s and labourer have got to hack off 80m2 reapply and finish to a high standard which ain’t never gonna happen then spend another day removing temporary protection, mastic seal and making sure everything is pukka, but they still ain’t finished as they need to come back for the Remedial works. You my friend have gone for the cheapest quote and like most who come on here asking the same question have now realised the error of your ways. I doff my hat to you sir and wish you good day :tanguero:

Thanks for the break down. I did forget to mention I paid for all skips and the scaffolding was already up. But maybe it was still too cheap?

Agree that's going to get dirt sitting on it from day one. The detail above the lower windows a strange one aswell.
