l need to render some of my house wall and need to know how much l will need in bags of cement and sand.
What l also would like to know is what cement and sand is best to use and do l need to add anything to the mix .
Do l need to put a scratch coat on or will one coat be ok.

The area l need to cover is 4m x 2metres .
For the area would you hire a mixer or mix manually.
One more question, what beading will l need for corners and windows before applying the render. Thanks

you need to scratch coat with a good splash of waterproofer in each mix pva the wall before doing the scratch coat let it dry overnight then lay your top coat on put some feb or lime in the mix makes it more workable if your matching old render use galvinsed render beads if it was the whole house need rendering back to the bricks then i would use s/s beads

Help.......... l have just chopped out all the render that was blown out, it is in different places on the front house wall so it's big patches that need rendering..
l bought some 2 bags of cement, 10 bags of sharp sand and 5L cementone Freeflo plasticiser, l did a mix of 1:4 and some freeflo in the mix.
l wet the wall abit as the the wall is really dry and sandy as alot of the render underneath the top l took off is still intact.
l applyed the render l had just mixed and it just came off as l was putting it on...
What am l doing wrong.
l'm thinking about getting the render bagswhere you just add water to see if that's any better.........

If the wall is dry and sandy you probably need to coat the wall with an SBR slurry to give ya sell a key for the scratch coat...............SBR Slurry= 1/1 sand/cement + SBR

What sand would l use Artisan and how long before applying scratch coat..
Is SBR like PVA .. How much does this stuff cost.

Rendering is not for amateurs end of!
Sorry Ray but think you need to call the A team in on this one :RpS_thumbup:

plastering sand
the slurry wont take long to dry, start scratching when its tacky or dry it wont matter.
SBR is anything from £15-£20.Its like PVA but for external work
I would let the scratch coat cure for at least 3-5 days before you apply the top coat

l've done a slurry mix and applyed to the wall as they are so dry, even when l apply the mix the wall just soaks it in..
Anyway l started putting the scratch coat on and as soon as the render leaves the float onto the wall it just drops off..
Should l make a mix more sloppy or add something to the mix or really soak wet the walls
