How do you all quote?

I write the price out on one of my flyers and leave it with them.

About 7 times out of 10 they agree to it before then, but I leave it with them anyway, so we know exactly what I've quoted for.

small job just gets quote wrote on back of card and left with client and obviously i have it in my "quote" book to refer to.
big jobs i take detailed notes and pictures to refer to and either email them a proper typed up and headed quote (if they are ok with a email) or i take it round to them printed off with copies for myself to go in the folder

I usually get measurements, and a brief description of job and give them a very rough estimate over the phone or by email. Explain that I would need to see the job before a written quotation can be supplied. Usually just a straight skim, anything else I will go and see the work first.

Might seem daft but I'm fighting with these

feckin hell mate thier all on it like a tramp on a bag of chips? For buttons too:RpS_cursing:

Stick at it mac. There's work out there....but not on the Sheff forum.
NEVER had anything off it. Too many 'skimmers' signing on.

3-4 yrs ago Ceevee I was getting loads. @ good fair prices too.

I'm getting the feedback and the replies but as soon as I mention a ball park figure, gone.

I actually emailed the mods to encourage them to clamp down on open forum pricing, it just auctions the job off at no benefit to anyone.

That one makes me laugh and I cringe every time I see it,

"I will beat anyones quote" fukkin muppet I might go in at £10 just to see if he does, the tvvat

You'd be better off explaining to the customer on there that your pride and professionalism wouldn't allow you to compete with ridiculous prices and to remember that you get what you pay for. :RpS_thumbup:

Did a job off there back in feb, luckily got it for a good price and started day after quoting. Needed coin and was going NZ few days later. Think the fact I could do it at short notice got me the job, not the price.

The kid was telling me, he'd had about 50 replies begging for the job. It was a 4m x 4m ceiling that I did for £110 he'd had lads pm'ing 4, 5 time lowering and lowering their price, 1 lad wanted £30. Bearing in mind he'd not seen it.

I lost my rag with the job link iv posted up.

I replied to the £170 remark with,

£170.00 is a joke, I will not and cannot compete with prices like that. After tax insurance which all proper trademen should have & fuel and materials I'd be left with a fiver.

ya get wot ya pay for half them muppets on there under cutting probably done a few friends houses with their £5 trowel and hawk and think their the best in the land.

Good on ya mate.
I've been on there a few times arguing the toss about shite prices.

Funny thing is....when posting replies people generally agree with me!
Its a shame thats not what we're seeing in reality.

keep us updated mac if they replay back to that id like to hear how they think that 170 is a fair price

I will, I don't like moaning about it all time but it's the reality of the trade I suppose, got to keep plodding on. Keep chin up. Fresh week an all that.

My ma' lives in Scarborough so I'm going to expand out there if I can go quoting for the day, once a month and use her house as a base if I get any work up that way, should open York, brid, Scarborough side of Yorkshire up for me.

Anyway lads, off to pub take my mind off plastering and onto the barmaids tits for an hour,

Mac
