I'll be honest.
I'm feckin fed up of sh1te like this when trying to work.
I'm fed up working around architraves and skirts.
I'm fed up having to tidy up spotless.
I'm fed up of PVA'ing everything.
I'M FED UP.
I want to go back on site where I started, I'll take a wage drop to get my foot in. I don't care... but maybe not to the £12 an hour I keep seeing advertised....
Give me price work any day.
A mate of mine just managed to get a start after what seems like years of trying to get on.
He's getting £800 to dab out AND skim an apartment... taking the pi55 yes, but I know I could make that work.
BUT
It seems to be a closed shop, with siteworkers keeping a close guard making sure no one new gets on.
How would I go about it?
You can work round things but that^ is taking the pi55! Too much stuff in the way. You need room to move your hop up around the room also if you use stilts, nothing should be in your way. You should ask customers to tidy up the area your working in. I've had jobs that the rooms I am skimming are a mess, I've asked them to tidy them or I cannot do it. I am on site myself and I much prefer site work because there isn't much messing about apart from scriming and beading. When I do Re-Skim's I PVA the night before and bring my tools round, then in the morning set and ready to work. I don't go mad with PVA just a light coat of watery PVA, also put a little bit of PVA in with my mix. Makes it more creamy and gives you abit more time to play about with it because it can suck up all the moisture out of the skim so it helps. To get on site try the old fasion way, go to city centre and turn up at new builds and ask for work.

You guys crack me up.... its just like being at fookin work!!
I'm not saying the moneys crap ... I price in for it... but im just fed up with it all, I'm a spread not a removal bloke.
Dansouthcoast I'm in Sheffield... plenty of sites here but all the workers saying its sh1te (they don't come off the sites tho).
Anyhow job done and paid now.
On to the next furniture filled shithole...
We could be getting £5 m2 and still not be happy as we would live to our means, know what I mean.
Question is why do site workers stay on site?
At least they have amenities and can go for a crap with no problems, most of the builders I work with won't even hire a loo and who really wants to ask Joe Public if you can dump in his bog.
Also what overheads you have with site bashing are minimal, not much stress and no phone calls, no pricing up f**k it I'm selling everything apart my skimming kit and going back to site.
Easy life.

Was doing a bathroom refit this time last year, nice big bathroom. As for my shites, they are usually like clockwork, either every morning or every night before bed. Anyhow, at this bathroom refit I had everything out and was tiling away, mixed up a new bucket late on and thought I'd stay an extra hour or hour and half. I was also drinking high finer stuff for mild IBS. Come half 5, I just felt it coming like there was no tomorrow. Only place I could go was into the back small bathroom that's onto the utility room/kitchen. Straight in and because I've been trying to hold it in, a lot of gas accumulated and when I was shifting, you'd have thought I was like thin guy on trainspotting. To make matters worse, the women who owned the gaf was in kitchen cooking the diner. Have never felt so embarrassed in all my lifE like I did walking out of that bathroom!!
