I used gone off plaster which has gone lumpy

Hi all,

For background I am just a DIY-er but through help of this forum I have generally had some small wins with small jobs round the house, have done a couple of bare brick walls done first with hardwall and then multi finished as well as a couple of ceilings so I have a basic understanding but not to the level of a proper spread. I’ve generally been happy with the finish after a bit of sanding etc until one recent job.

Typically I’ve found wall chases the easiest of jobs but recently I used some old plaster that was out of date and it went off soooo quickly and was a nightmare to work with - Amateur mistake i know - lesson learnt the hard way!

Anyway I tried to make it work as it was just these chases left to do. The first one I did was horrendously lumpy (3 of the attached pics are this one)
The second one I made much more watery and it came out a bit better but still not great (this is picture with the window to the left of the chase - this one looks worse than it is as I have boosted the brightness and contrast to make it more visible but it isn't really lumpy like the other one)

I did the mist coat just to see how bad they really are. The second one might be blag-able with elbow grease but the first is horrific so what’s the best way of remedying this? Scraping out and redoing? Is it sandable, any guidance appreciated!!

Easifil/toupret to top the chases. Sands and blends better.

This reminds me of chases done by a fella called “master plaster” or something. And he was telling these people not to employ me because I’m a woman. And he cracked out his bucket and left in on their lawn apparently.

And I thought, well well…

Nah, nah, nah, nah.

I'm betting this trumps it.

;)

Enjoy.

I know, and agree.

If nothing else - he's open and honest.

It is weird though - if you read the comments sections, I think he really rates himself..........

Haven’t read it, but if you need to dub out a bit (even on pb) then you do it.
