If plasterings so good....gimme a job.

That what I would have assumed. Or say its a 3 day job, could you not request it on the second day?

I'm genuinely wondering what people have done if they've not been paid? Is there any way to follow it up? Legal action or something?

Some people probably do take a draw off jobs part way through I generally just wait til i'm finished and cleaned up.

I put on my quote payment on completion and on i'm done they put it in my bank via quick transfer and it's in within 10 minutes or they pay me readies. There's no excuse if you let them know in advance you want paid when you're complete.

They always find excuses, had one the othee week for a couple of grand, I had to take out over draft just to tie me over as had bought new tools and materials for another job.

Sent the usual 'did you get my invoice' message the following day.. they responded 'yes, thanks again'.. I reminded them it's payment on completion.

Next day, checked bank, nothing, left another email, no reply.

Next day called the house phone and spoke to his misses, asked what was going on 'oh, itll be paid, he's been away working for a few days, I'll make sure he pays it this evening!'

Money was in that night.

It makes my blood boil, its so rude and inconsiderate, there is no excuse to not pay IMMEDIATELY on the day you finish. They make you feel bad messaging them, and right at the end after all the palava find 30 seconds to transfer the wedge. Why can't they just do it whens agreed?!

Get a cscs card get on site no hassle just turn up do your own thing
Definitely couldn't be arsed with that domestics b*ll***s . Skimming an rated ceiling last Saturday fuk me took longer moving the settee than doing the job .How people do that every day is beyond me

That's why it's easier on site no agro. Just get in your plot tunes on away you go

I’ve decided its a weird power thing. Like i’ll pay when I’m ready. Probably got tiny dongs
i worked for a woman who was just a bitch. She paid us minus £100 because that’s what she deemed we ought to be paid. Power trip, she’d obviously done it plenty of times. Her reasoning was because the walls weren’t completely straight... it was a re skim. Was going to take her to court for it because was bloody livid! But in the end we couldn’t be arsed.

I had one last week. Was on and off the job for a month and money was never mentioned on any of the visits. Mate who ran the job assured me it’ll be fine. Finally finished the job and they asked for an invoice. Ok no problem I said and I send one the same evening.
Didn’t get a reply. Thought ok I’ll see how long it takes. A week later I lost my patience and sent another e mail. Got a reply a day later saying they’ve been busy and not had time to send it! Takes minutes ffs!
Another day went by after numerous checks in my account and finally it came through! Cheeky f**k**s.

If the prices being banded about last year are anything to go by I'd rather take the aggro of domestic work than working my b*ll***s off on site making home builders rich.

I took some time out about 12 years ago to start a money lending business, so I know the ins and outs of getting money back off people.

Basically you cant.
I tried court action, bailiffs...nothing worked. If they dont wanna pay they dont have to, is what it boils down to.

If the debt is over (i think its) £750 then you can petition for their bankruptcy, but like the other routes, it just costs more money that you arent guaranteed back.

So you became a loan shark?

I ask for installments if it's over a grand, some times forget though! Atleast if they are trouble paying after the first grand then I don't lose more!

You must be working for them southerners or something.... I have BY FAR had more trouble with arsehole medium sized building companies than with private jobs. Trouble with weeks in hand and holiday pay and all that. Every private job I've ever done except one was no problem at all.

@Vincey
You ok pal? You were the most keen spread on here 6 months ago, posting inspirational messages on a Monday morning, jet washing your buckets out the lot.
Now you seen fed up mate
Thanks, I’m cool mate , tbh think we all have the same s**t going on all the time
Could say I been a bit moody too on here lately but one thing for sure
That jet wash is still in the van

Everything mate.
I'm busy as fook but jobs are shite, I cant seem to get paid coz everyone wants to go through the bank which means "i'll pay when I can be arsed", all the materials are different now and everything I thought I knew....I don't anymore, and I'm no better off than when I started all those years ago.

Had enough. I want some steads.
You want my fav builder 4 bags max a day over to hits . Paid on a fri

Last site I worked on a few months ago was £7m dab and skim.
Just couldn't make it pay. Same old thing the corridors were great but the rooms and cubbys dragged.
Temps dropped now gauges will take longer and especially greasier with flex trowels .....I've dropped back 1 coating.

Fuuck the lot of it
If plasterings so good....gimme a job.

You wouldn't go into f**k**g ASDA walk away with stuff and say I'll send the money over asap "family problems"

It's like they think;
"oh yes you the small business you look vulnerable.. yes I will not pay you of all people hehe"

Love to stab them with my Marshaltown!

Really we all should give a written agreement before we start no matter the size!

If its my gig n fair size . If i get matetials i ask for cash on delivery. Dont like asking for owt till jobs done but some time break in down as payments per floor

Been to court a few times now, can be costly and very time consuming.

Under £500 and it’s not worth it. £500-£1000 is just for pride and principal. £1000+ is probably worth chasing.
