Think its a great idea. Would you have to have the insulation tested with the pressure from the water etc?

Yes it works great ! i have done loads now i have been doing this for the last 5years ! i fix the insulation boards ! , then render over the top and embed mesh cloth in to the render !, about 6mm on walls and 12 mm on the floor then when its cure mosaic tile over the lot ! having the insulation so close to the water makes it more efficient !, lots of pool companies put insulation behind the shell ! then the water has to heat-up the concrete shell first if you think about it !! so i think this is better
