is it just one of those things.

Did you key the render to take the finish? Shouldn't be using Pva before the skimming if you've keyed it already, I've seen some lads rubbing a wall up with two nails in their float and leaving hardly any key these are the basics of plastering but some people don't know the importance and rely on Pva too much.

I'm using The Plasterers Forum Mobile App

When your saying the surface was dusty as hell do u mean the brickwork ? Or do u mean u pvad ur sand cement cos it was dusty? As u did say u pva'd your sand cement , should be no need if waterproofer in sand cement , scrap off shitty bits off scratching and get on with it !

i pva the sand and cement pal as the sand comes to the surface when i devil key it, i do go abit over the top rubbing it up to get rid of any little hollows.

because the house was riddled with damp and ive installed a damp course and the spec is to water proof to both pal.

so why let the scratch cure before topping off, topping off while the scratch was still green would have been better and then let it cure before skimming IMO. And even better than that why not just use renovating plaster..................:RpS_thumbup:

not rennovating plaster because of cost, and i was tought to let the scratch dry for a day or two so the top cures slower.

It should finish solid when its cured though surely ? And be the same kind of finish as a finished render just which the scratches , cant see why it would be that sandy on the surface , and how would pva fix it ? Holding the face of the wall together with pva :-s if its fully waterproofed as you have said why pva for suction either as not needed it hangs round in anyways ! I just give it a light scrap , and as mentioned test with a bit water if wary , even go around brush the dust off with a damp brush no need for pva :-)

Ive got two. One in the lock up one in the van. Great idea whoever thought of it

Thanks steve but I'll let you take all the credit because The Beddy Box sounds better than The Nisus Nechrophilicasket :RpS_unsure:

there is a small one coming from the corner of a door and then the there are 3 on another wall which practically run from floor to ceiling.
