Hi all,

First time having any plaster work done so I’m not sure if this plastering is any good. This wall seems to have dried with I can only describe as a ripple effect. It’s a re skim over plasterboard. I can feel all the ripples under my hand and there are 3 sort of big waves marks you’ll notice which I can also feel under the hand, like the surface is wavy. Also scratches I’m not sure what from? Just trying to manage my expectations and if the work is indeed shoddy, should I ask for it all redoing or ask to remedy by other means? Thanks

Shocking tbh.I would address this immediately rather than him pursue any further personally.

No plasterer visited your property
@warnimg do not let same outfit sort it)
Only solution is to employ a real pro plaster ….

The end .

I messaged the guy whose coming to carry on the job tomorrow “Hi Paul, we’ve noticed as the plaster has continued to dry over the weekend that there are lots of scratches and bumps and rough patches in places. It doesn’t look or feel right to us. Just making you aware of the situation before you arrive tomorrow. Cheers”

He’s replied “Had some real problems with the pva not drying will deal with it tomorrow will have to run a light Sander over it tomorrow”

He’s a builder and family friend so perhaps a jack of all trades and not a plasterer. He’s now said he’ll bring a plasterer with him tomorrow and reskim everything if it’s too bad. Thanks for the replies. Good to know it’s not just me being picky.

As I've stated before proper plastering firms don't pay for sub standard wank work . So whoever thinks it's all one coat sponge bobs are living in a fantasy land . Domestics ha ha every bad job is on some unknowing persons house. Thats something to be said about that

So they’ve turned up this morning and said they’ll sort the issues with a sander. The builder is going at the walls with an electric sander and the plasterer is hand sanding bits with 180 grit. The builder said if we’re still not happy then they’ll have to re skim it. I believe the plasterer is going to be skimming other bits of the hallway this afternoon so I’ll asses how his plastering is and if it’s good, I’ll request it all to be done to that standard.

Can I ask though- what should a well skimmed wall look and feel like when it’s dried? They are skimming over old plaster that is relatively flat but with the odd impression, indentation etc hence us getting it done in the first place to eliminate these. Should a skim eliminate defects in old plaster? Is it unreasonable to expect a somewhat nice flat finish or is that just not possible with a skim?

Thanks

Like this ceiling. Have a walk round a few local sites and get a proper plasterer from there . Fear the worst from the domestic men nobody checks there work . Ha ha

More work from the ‘plasterer’ today.
he’s shitter than the builder,I would get somebody else in on your terms and whatever the cost you want that deducted from the bill off your builder,I would refuse to pay him anything else unless he agrees to it

So i sent the builder a text expressing our concerns. Basically said that the plaster behind the banister that the 'plasterer' did today is like that because he couldn't get a trowel behind there. It was to be sanded, although as you can see, there are literally bits of plaster he's missed completely. Even i'd do a better job than that. Finished his response by saying they can't meet our standards and to find someone else, as if my standards are too high.

You fussy b*****d.

Would there be a reason the plasterer didn’t plaster flush to the wooden door surround or is this more negligence? It seems the builder did plaster flush to the other door surrounds as per the last photo.
