Could I ask for some opinions please - We've recently had a plasterer do; some ceilings and a couple of walls, we have a lot more needs doing but not sure whether to look for someone else or stick with this guy, . He advised that we'd have to just have the ceiling skimmed else we'd lose the coving (Although I thought the obvious solution would be to remove the coving, plaster board it and put up new coving?)
I've only had one wall plastered in the past and was quite pleased with the result, it was neat & the room was left in a nice state. The more I look at this one the less impressed I am, but I don't know if I'm being a bit fussy. On the ceiling the edges are not at all neat, I'm going to have to go round and add filler before painting to make a nice neat edge up to the coving. On the wall the edges round the doorway is not neat and there are large coarse patches, grooves and several places where wet plaster has dripped down and dried so are raised up and will need to be sanded down. One of the walls is above the staircase, so it's the vertical wall in front of you as you go down the stairs, he's skimmed the vertical part, but not the part on the angle that meets the downstairs ceiling and the edge between them is quite untidy. He also left a lot of plaster marks on the other walls and there are big chunks that have splatted into the skirting boards & some dried onto the carpet as well. Obviously the marks etc will just clean off, but would you expect the place to be left in that kind of mess?
Final question, would you expect a plasterer to bring their own cleaning equipment? he didn't bring a dustpan & brush or anything and we found him poking about in the garage looking for a hosepipe without asking first which seems a bit odd?
Would you get this guy back or look for someone else?
