Joining an oversill.

Howya everyone. Haven't posted in a few years. Forgot my password and email and couldn't log in fs. Guessed it tonight and bingo, first time hahaha.

Anyway, I'm doing a stonejob on my own house at the moment. Couldn't be f**k*d taking the cills out and putting new ones in so I'm going to put in a passive oversill in instead. What I want to know thou, can these be joined. I can only get them in 2.4m lengths and what I need is 2.6m. I know I could silicone two sections together but I want to hide the join if possible.



Can these be finished any other way than just painting

How's everyone getting on anyway. I think it's been well before the covid carryon I posted on here. Maybe 4 years.

How's Dan getting on with the bees.

Last time I posted here things where still tight work wise and picking up. Last few years, it's been f**k**g ridiculous how much work is about. Had a great run with excellent clients untill the one I have now and the one before them. f**k**g nightmare. Plus think they going to try the aul bollox on the last payment. Just feel it coming.

Think everyone has had a good run the last few years mate. Was struggling to keep up at one point but not complaining. Noticed a few dips but reasonably steady still.
Hope you don’t get too much grief.

I’m sure @Danny will give you an update on his bees
 
I know that marble can be stitched almost invisible. A stonemason may be able to carry this out for you.
If you don't want the expense I would join the sils in the middle with Fischer resin.

The bees are ok.. had a a fair few losses some just unlucky and the others have been my fault entirely :( but will fight another day :D

Same here. They would put your head away trying to work them out but there's just something about them thst I won't give up. I'm down to two hives thou. Far to busy to go with any more. Good to hear your still with them.

Yeah, the resin is a good shout. I was thinking of bedding the cills on with exterior tile adhesive instead of foam. Thoughts on this?

Yeah I am over 40... well I was... not sure what the aftermath of winter will leave me... produced 3500 jars of honey last season though...

lesson I learned last week (far too late) is that the bees need ventilation... their food blocked the air flow in the hive and condensation killed them... heart wrenching but hopefully i have solved it quick enough to still have a good season :-\

3500 jars! Holy f**k! Amazing. Jars are selling here for 10e. That's 35k. Not bad . Fs I'm happy with 50.

Do you insulate your hives?

I have always insulated... but it appears I have just been lucky with the weather in the past... this year taught be a lesson...
Next winter no insulation just letting them get on with it :D they have been doing it longer than me :D

Years ago they used to put matchsticks just below the bottom and brood box for ventilation.
 
Wow that's some good money with the honeeeey! What's the shelf life and 3500 what size jars? not the mini ones you get in hotels? lol
 
Thst moment when you realize you f**k*d up! Well not me, my son put stone under the left hand side after I set the cill in adhesive and sealed all joints with polymer sealant. The left cut was a thicker bed of adhesive so he thought to put a stone under it so it wouldn't sink. Yes, but the left cut rose before the epoxy set and now there's a kick up in it.


What I want to know is, I'll be putting the acrilic all over the top of this to give it a finished plus will be taping the joint. My question is, can I put acrylic on thicker on this area to fill it out or will I have to take it off and redo that cut section.

Also, I've seen some granite type finishes with these sills. Can I put this finish on them or are they made like that?
