We are off to do ceilings Monday, the architect has stipulated that all the joints must be filled with joint filler before we can skim, I have heard of this only once before , is it common,is it for fire protection?

we don't talk to the architect, we tell the foreman he tells the builder who will tell us to carry on..Complete waste of time tell him you will bed the tapes with finish first to fill any gaps, the taping can cause your finish to fail on top. You will have to Pva the filler, your tapes won't stick so it can cause you problems, put your foot down and explain what I've said and if he still wants it done tell him to **** off
It won't fail but it's pretty pointless. But bg reccommended joint filler before skimming ?

I;d fibatape the joints before filling, otherwise whats the point , if you just use filler as said, your tape wont stick and your gonna get cracked joints, couple of coats of PVA before skimming aswell, your going to get the finish pulling in different on the joints, can;t see the point, architect seems to know FA about our job mate, but if thats what he wants, charge for it and crack on..
Why?
