skimming2day,if the insurance company agree to that price of 40,000-50,i will be suprised.you can build a new house for that price!!another example of people on here of over pricing.

I did say its a big big house.
It needs full hack off all new ceilings full rewire, all the water needs removing so i need to hire dehumidifers £450 a week for 180 litre jobbie 2 weeks at least !!!!
Full replaster inc all ceilings full decoration throught, all new carpets and solid wood floors on ground level
Bathroom floor is also damaged so bath suite out new floor suite back in.
All new doors skirting and architraves thought and im not sure as yet if the kitchen units will swell up and require new kitchen.rThere is also a large double width front door that is so swollen its falling of the hinges and the glass has cracked becuse of this. This will have to be made to measure at a cost of around £2000-3000 with the fancy glass paneling etc.
I gotta add a good few £££ss on becuse i could be waiting as long as 3 months from start of job till cheque cleared and in bank and i still gotta pay people and get materials in.
I think that is a very fair price.I didnt just make a figure up off the top of my head.

How much would you do it for?

i'd price the job up in sections...
that way both the customer and the insuarance company get to see what theyre paying for...
rather than just go 'f'kin 50 grand!!! are you havin a laff! for a bit of plastering and some bits and bobs!'
i couldnt possibly give a price without seeing the job, pricing everything up etc...
i reckon you could completely gut a house, and refurb with new kitchen and bathroom for 50k, and decent spec too...
and are you gonna credit them the materials in advance or are you gonna get at least a deposit?

I dont know if i would have to credit it or stage payments or final cheque etc ???? its early stages.
I have made it clear i can deal with the claim from begining to end I have already broken every single repair task room by room down with simple cost of labour /materials inc price also Allowing £30 m2 for carperting and £50 m2 for wood flooring throught.
I know it sounds a lot and when i spoke to my dad about it last night he reckond it was expensive so we both went through it till the early hours seeing the new year inn and infact we think final price of £42750 was cheap !!!!
We have to take things like mould growth starts rearing its head after completion or something else goes wrong???
I gotta cover myself in every direction on this one.
I dont see it as easy money more like heavy risk.
But with work pretty slow ill take it on.If i was flat out i would let it pass by no hessitation.

not sure how anyone can say its too expensive... teh house is obviously massive...

A friend of mine fitted a bathroom for a 3 bed house and a fitting failed and for 2 weeks they had mains water pumping into the house. (the owners went on holiday) and from what I can remember that took 10 weeks to dryout with humidifiers and everything was destroyed.

The insurance company paid him to put it right and he made a lot of money out of it also... and also teh insurance paid for teh the owners of teh house to have a B&B as well :-)

I think £50K can easily get swallowed up

50 k so easy to swallow up like you say Danny. If it was a car theyd right it off.But cus its a house its got to be repaired.
I agree with what someone else said that you could rebuild a small house for that.

Yeah cos you have to work with what you got....
not exactly...
you strip away everything you dont need for a kick off, then once youve done that, and done it properly you can further assess the situation and 99.9 percent of the time, once youve got your head stuck into a job, you can bang it back together again at a fraction of what you thought it was gonna cost..

still, that does depend on your level of experience...

now ol' skimmin knows this only too well...

problem is, every f'ckers sccared off getting mugged off these days and if your gonna take a risk like that, you have to have it nailed down first off..

i.e. deposits and stage payments, no promises, but keep em informed and keep a good trigger on the job...

which when your in there you cant help but do... youll be sat in the bath having eureka moments etc...

I could easy knock 10 percent off it, and very likely 20 percent....

f'ck the government...

you gotta get the job first, whats the old f1 saying? to finish first, first you gotta finish...

make youre presentation (and it will be a presentation, company background, who we are, what we do, its all just image) a blinder and you stand a good chance...

50k? now im guessing here but you see that refurb on my silly webpage? bloke spent 85k... that was a 3 bed bungalow, now a 5 bed top spec challet bungalow, trusses alone come in a ten grand...

Trust me i know exactly what its gonna cost me and its no where near the price im putting in off £42750
All im going to take off the job is a salary.
I reckons all materials and extra labour will be around £29,000 im hoping to make around £12,000 profit give or take a few quid.
6 weeks work divided by £12000 = £2000 a week.
More than a usual weeks work but 6 weeks of sleepless nights.

2 grand a week? off one job, pure net profit? bet you a weeks wages you dont get it...
the sleepless nights youre on about... wish i had the job in front of me, the ability to stage payment it with deposit, 2 lads and its mine... tellin ya..
2k up front

hope you get it skimming but dont insurance firms usually give out the bigger work to bigger firms ????

Rich just a few minutes in a PM to Beddy i was saying the biggest insurance job i ever won was for £9000 so i dont hols much hope.
Thing is..im not big firm but do good building work.Im not vat reg,and i have priced the job to win it.
They can check me out and find al my previous work is coshure,so i have a chance. Also the back hander i offered the guy should go a long way to him asking for me to do the work :RpS_wink:

I know pal. This is another reason i really dont want the job.
A lot of outlay a lot of hassle for a poxy salary that could tip me over the £70000 threshold into VAT territory.
But it very quit for me 3 or quotes in last 2 weeks and no work guarnteed after tues /weds.
Things will pick up early next month im sure of that.
