Hi all,

New here, first post
I'm just completing a new build in east midlands, Dormer bungalow rendered from 1m up.
Approx 100 sq mts and was going to use K-rend (York) . Is there a better/cheaper/easier alternative?
Monocouche or any other, also which is most cost effective ? What kind of price for that meterage labour only or all in? The substrate is Fibolite block a medium density "breeze" type block plus some Aquapanel dormers.

I'd appreciate any advice cheers.

Hello mate

best to find several local contractors - ask on here - to have a look, submit pricing and offer render options. Then you go have a look at some of their finished work to check the finish and their quality

Cheapest is not always best..... by easier I assume you mean easier for you to maintain longer term...? when you see their finished work, have a chat with the owners about how they look after it, or call the render companies and get peace of mind from them...

There are loads of render system options - shop and ask about - the renderers all have their opinions and favorites - not much wrong with K rend if installed correctly.

Good Luck

Thanks for that, by easier, I meant generally less hassle. I've had K-rending done before but never seen Monocouche done (except on you-tube)
The spread that was down to do the job now through no fault can't do it, got a price nearer £35/m lab and my mate is baulking a bit as he does with most prices :).
The thing is, it should've been done by now, house wants to be finished and on market soon.
I'll post a couple of piccies for your delectation & information.
K-rend, Monocouche or what?

K rend is a monocouche render , you'll be pushed to find a renderer available this time of year to be honest, but it's a small job so you may strike lucky.

If you want cheap why don't you just paint the block work...or just flick it with a few passes of coloured tyrolean...

Beautiful as the blockwork may be, I don't think a flick of tyrolean would pass muster. I'm not averse to paying , just not through the nose. Hence my post asking for a bit of informed advice.
Also I've heard of, but never seen Monocouche, which is Owls a brand name, as is K-rend. Are you saying then that they are in fact one and the same?

A monocouche render is just a through coloured scratch render , so weber, k rend etc are all different manufacturers of the same thing, there is a manufacturer of a through coloured render called monocouche but it's the same as the rest.

K rend have somehow got some sort of exclusivity to mono. It's all people ever seem to say when it's mono of any producer they want. How they got the whole market cornered is pretty clever really because years down the line when there are many better products the public still use them as a benchmark.

i would go for an acrylic finish if i were you. you need a thincoat render on your cement board dormers.the finish then can be matched on your blockwork.

Dormers are a c**t to render. Even more so when the roof is tiled.

I wouldn't be pricing that on a metre rate, no way Jose.

This time of year you will being paying top dollar for a quality renderer, all are booked up in advance through the summer. My advice would be pay top dollar (through the nose) get a quality finish. If you think it's expensive to hire a professional, wait until you hire an amateur.
