.... and 'designers' are fcuking useless!

My email response to the plans I received this evening for plans I was supposed to have on Monday.

"Hi Steve,

Those graphics are pretty grim, and certainly not up to showing anyone as an illustration of how it might look.
In the graphics it shows brown units, they need to be cream.
The worktop doesn't look anything like the one we discussed.
The extractor hood looks like a cheap B&Q sale item. I said that it needs to be something of decent quality and smart looking.
On the plan it shows the fridge freezer to the right of the ovens, in the illustrations it's on the left. The thing is as I said, there is no upright fridge freezer as that's going into a separate alcove.
The wall on the right of the plan labelled '3' which is 1350 long is where we discussed the units continuing on a corner return. Which is why we agreed that the stud wall would be left out to leave the end of the units on show.

So apart from it being sod all like we discussed, and no use for me to show anyone, it's spot on.

Regards,
"

That's Smiths who were pretty good, then they changed designers. Still, bad as they are they're still miles better than Wren, B&Q, Howdens, Benchmarx etc. I've just opened an account with TKC who have a decent reputation and do a good range so I'll get them to quote on it and probably use them until they fcuk up. And so the merry-go-round continues. :)

I seen Smith's kitchens in the mag, not bad on price but they said I either have to go and get it from up north myself or wait a month or 2 till a lorry of theirs comes down this way with an odd load

kitchens, the cost can go from 3k to 40k. if you want up market try orwell kitchens ,ipswich.
if you want cheap build the units in suffolk white bricks and just purchase the doors.

Their main supplier is Symphony who do a huge amount of the new build stuff. Smiths order the stuff from Symphony who then deliver direct. I've had a few and they're usually a month from order to delivery which is fine for me as I try to work at least that in advance.

Have a look at TKC if you need a price https://www.tkcomponents.co.uk/

What's wrong with Ikea units ?
Good plan and design and delivery , all same cupboards aren't they? but don't like there worktops tbh

They have no void behind the cabinets and most customers not prepared to pay extra for chasing plumbing, waste, gas and leccy into the wall, only way around it run it under the units but sometimes that just not works with the existing services

The irony of it is, most of the time all of our problems stem from one thing, people. So what do we do to get over the stress of all the hassle? Find people to tell. o_O

Hahah yeah I know I seem to be the man most ring to have a rant though cos I see funny side of it

my mother had a kitchen done by magnet and it is horrific... she thinks its great but the workmanship is crap... Cant wait for her to drop in to us (not been here in 5 years) to see how proper kitchen looks :D

She also spent £15K plus on it :D

Diy kitchens are local to me and have a great reputation.
They cut a lot of the costs out by not having the dedicated design teams like magnet ad wren.

I've done lots of kitchens for fitters of wren, magnet and howdens.
Their quality is fine the problem is, especially with wren and magnet half the stuff turns up either missing, damaged or wrong.
Plus as mentioned Bovey it's a down to the fitters fit!
