No sorry mate just a wow in general as i can't believe something so basic is being discussed , sorry i thought it was a plasterers forum and not a tell oddjobb man how to plaster in one easy lesson, Not aimed at anyone person in particular, apart from obvious ::)
[/quote]

yeah it is a plasterers forum and im an apprentice so im asking for advice on the best way to do something that is to do with plastering. Not gonna go and ask on an 'oddjob' forum am i. But if this topic is so below you then why bother posting in it? Or why dont you make a youtube clip if you wanna let everyone know how good and experienced you are at plastering ;)

typewriter method sounds good, think im gonna try that out.

Give the kid a chance boys, sounds like he's willing to have a go and a large ceiling on your jack for the first time must be daunting.... He asked for advice, not an arse ripping. Gotta be confident to do that for the first time, lets install the confidance and not take the piss... We have all been there remember!! ;D

uNderstand What you sayin Big Mart, but look at his postings 'can you make good money off subbies then What are your rates and how much do you do in a day, then ' big ceiling ' he needs to learn to walk before he can run,
respect to the lad if he wants to learn but c'mon start by learnin to plaster first with a spread cos he wont learn a great deal by just askin qeustions on here , he kneeds to develop his practical skills first and if he jumps straight onto a big ceiling and gets into bother , which he will , it will only shatter his confidence too such a degree he maybe just jack in.
sorry young man but you obviously have quite a bit to learn, so find a plasterer who will let you work with him even if it,s just labouring you will learn loads by watching him , and don't expect to pick up big money till you have mastered the art cos it won't happen

Amen to that mate! Lets all be nice, its christmas, the time for peace and goodwill to all men ;D ;D

on any forum you may not always get advice you wont to hear.but thats the chance you take, any you dont like disregard,or dont reply.wldnt take it personal at this stage of you career plenty of time for that .gdl

Agree with intensive, not at any point did i attack the lad on a personal level , all i was trying to get over was maybe the lad should slow down , read some posts before jumpin in with both feet, i have no problem with any one tryin to better themselves and make a few quid but more busineses fail within the first year, and in this current economic climate he should be realy carefull, if he reads some of the posts that have been added just recently it looks as if some one is takin the mick "how do you cut an hole in plasterboard" , "how do you render" or "what do you mix PVA etc" are these wind ups or what?? , how am i supposed to respond ??, or is this not a plasterers forum ?? if you think i'm being over critical then try the L&D Forum or E-Build see what response they get there, but any way once you get to know me i'm quite a passive chap and quite ammicable, MERRY XMAS TO EVERYBODY ;D (yes even you baily)

know what ya sayin mate basic stuff, but if he needs to know he needs to know, end of the day its on bailys own ceiling at home if it all goes pear shape then thats his prob, baily if i was you get ya sen some trestles and plenty of planks and set em out so you can do full runs from one end to the other when you start trowelin up

Flaz agree with you on him workin on his own house, only got his missus to contend with ;D but he wants to know if he could make money off subbies and how much do we charge etc , but surely he should know something about the game before tryin to run gangs of subbies , only needs one irate contracter and he could lose everything, Think gettin a bit deep now gonna wind up on this one, thanks for the chat boys, been fun ;)

Hello All,

Right, I use the typwriter method on ceilings works perfect on walls I do them in 2 start bottom left pull up leave about 6inches from top then pull the top in and sides.

Another spread I work with starts on the left hand side half way up the walll... half the gear goes up and the other goes down in a C shape so kinder like this

I))))))))))))))I
ICCCCCCCCC I
I((((((((((((((I

works well But I always finish before him and both our work is to a good standard.

Baily just get on and do it. if you cock it up sooooo what???

I have doe a lot of job that are far too big but just done them and all is ok!!

Danny

lol I start bottom left go all the way along then come back and pull the top in.

Not sure why the need to start top left........ I know some people cut the ceiling line in then go across the wall then pull up in to it.

-------------
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
(((((((((((((((

lol
Danny

top left top right??????? im lost lads ;D
the chap that taught me would go all the way round the ceiling with two sweeps adjacent to to the ceiling line then work to this ......sort of screeds ??......i start in one corner go across the wall, back on meself and end up in the opposite corner, ive seen lads doing the middle and going round the edges after working back into it

My method I find the quickest but thats cos I am tall and have a big wing span so I can reach to about 2.5meters in one sweep so I smash through walls and ceilings.

I think its a whichever way works for you...lol

Danny
