Good luck with hallways they are a pain in the arse, just dont try and put on too much in one go but first what you must do and this is more important than anything and if you dont get this rightyou will remember this job for the rest of your life. When you get there in the morning before you start PVAing the wall and getting your mix ready you need to go and sort the price because what you think its worth and what you get is 2 different things. There is no point arguing the price once its done, you have already said a few times they are keeping costs down and you are one of them if you do it first. What you charge for this hallway will be what you will be getting through out the house so if they get it cheap the rest will follow so sort that out before anything or i guarantee you will be starting another thread called the "Cant believe thats all i got" :)

This is the best bit of advice I've ever seen Flynny give out, DON'T IGNORE IT!

Just remember to wear the correct footwear when you prep it :RpS_thumbup:

You know what it's like when your eyes are tired and playing tricks on you?
Well I wondered what the hell Bubbles was doing with a pet colonic 1800. Poor little pooch.

Err........it's not my hoover, or carpet or safety slippers either before anyone goes doon that road :-0

Price the entire job break it down for them hallway,b/rooms/lounge etc and if they don't like your price move on and remember your only as good as your last job. One bit of advice if you realy do think thats a "big" job let someone else do it.you will be doing yourself a favour

More advice on the basics of plastering. i thought this was a site for tradesmen not chancers, still if some of you want to explain to them how to take money out of your own pockets, thats your choice.
who told you that????

I think someone's trying to brag about a 'big' job and its back fired cause he doesn't realise this it a normal days work for most of us... Apart from the lotto winners with the machines.
if you can do a BIG full house like that in a day can you explain how you do it please?
I'm sure you will find someone on here that can give you a hand if your ever struggling with these "BIG" jobs.

The "BIG DAY" lmfao loosing your virginity is a "BIG DAY" getting married is a "BIG DAY" moving out of mummy and daddy's house is a "BIG DAY" your skimming an average sized HSL wall!! Hahahaha... Bell end
funny how all the these new and relatively new members see other members having a pop/crack with someone and they start to join in!! its like watching the school bully picking on some new starter and all the other normally shy and quiet kids join in just cos they can, from where im sitting your the bellend old cocka

I would say its a big job to do on your own especially with that rad switched on lol No seriously i F*****g hate hallways and i seem to quote quite a lot, they make you sweat, nowhere to put a spot board and everything on top of you.

How come you haven't quoted for the job yet. How long did you say you've been plastering for?

I didnt quote for the work straight away because of how bad some of the walls were after taking the paper off, of which i stripped myself.

I worked with another plasterer until 2 years ago.So 13 with him..a year of that was laboring, and spent about 6 months in college, partly because the plasterer i was with wanted to learn more fibrous work.I didnt really know what i wanted at that time, but i didnt know anything else.

Thats what ive done.I told them to do it in stages .Get the hallway ready for skim, ill price then move on when they are ready.

I never said the hallway was a big job, only the house as a whole considering the state its in.

Dont understand the animosity to be honest...but there we go lesson learned for sure.

I didn't say I could do it in a day, I said its a normal days work... Like the saying "all in a days work"

im not having a pop at him cause everyone else is I just think after 15 days... I mean years experience a HSL wouldn't be called the 'big day' and he's saying he's charging £740 incl mats and that's for a full house?!?!?

Gives you the claustrophobias as well haha.

Just the hallway £740.

And the big day was just a bit of fun...ya know what that is ?.. Ya fooking dick rider.

He has been at it 15 yrs and pricing about a year, keep up :)

Lets be honest now... In 15 years the lad never had private jobs himself realllllyy:RpS_lol:

15 years you will know how much you can do a day, what does he want a day... It's not rocket science :RpS_wink:

I understand. but give them the price for the whole job then break it down. dont do the hallway then give a price for say, the b/room.

I see no reason to lie.

I'm just sorry that people think im bragging or fishing for advice...just dont get it.

You just a little different bud I mean the whole banter in work thread didn't go to well either lol. This came across like you were inexperienced not just at pricing but at perception of speed etc, yet you say you have been doing it for 15 years.. I'm sure people don't mean to get personal but as I'm sure you aware plastering is littered with wannabes who We wouldn't let mix up for us..

speed comes with time, quality is key, I'm not the fastest not by a long shot but that wall would be a formality.

stick with it bud you'll get used to everyone on here

People think this because your being so defensive about it! At the end of the day it's a HSL everyone's done one, you've got one to do, why upload pics? I'd understand if it was 28 bedroom house with a huge entrance hall but its not! The last HSL I did was exactly the same as this in a 3 bed terrace in old Trafford!

The banter thread was more about people who piss about when your trying to get your head down, and get something done..i love a good laugh and it was kinda misunderstood what i was trying to say with it.

When i was laboring i was fooking good at it..i knew what neded to be done and got on with it.I respected the spreads and wanted to learn.

I'm not the fastest out there but i'm the same in that its the quality of the work that matters not how much you do or earn...its nice to earn, but that quality has to come first. If the spread i worked under didn't give a **** about his work, i wouldn't be doing this today.

I'm green in a lot of areas ill admit that freely.

Thanks for that i appreciate it.

I just took them today and uploaded them on the pc...i was thinking of doing some sort of portfolio or something to show clients work i have done...i just threw them on here, just to get some chat going....it is a forum after all ?.

Keep building that portfolio Jcr, I have a large file of before and after shots which I keep in the van. It definitely helps win work for me not only the small jobs but often bigger ones too. I wouldnt take the comments here to heart, once it started nothing you said could have stopped it.

ye jc post some of your lass in the nude that will be better (i wouldnt post ya work pics if i was you mate youll just open an all new can of worms)
