Level 3 Diploma in plastering?

im on the level 3 now, done level 1 , 2, then NVQ 2 now diploma 3 and finally NVQ 3, just some of the questions involved in the essays are a pain in the starfish to find solid answers to
 
its mainly paperwork, only been there since september and since then i've boarded and skimmed out a bay ready for my fibrous work, rendered outside done ashlar dry/wet dash/cottagetexture/tyrolean and currently indoors doing the fibrous ceiling roses and running moulds, at the present we're cutting the running moulds and making panels etc. classroom wise its more about construction in general and the homeworks consists of 6 essays approx 12 pages each all about sustainable materials, conservation, foundations etc zzzzzz simple enough tho, the rest of the people on my course wish they just went ahead and set up on themselves and did the NVQ 2 straight after the dip2 but if your already training and theres not much work out i think its better to get the level3 in whiole you can then do the nvq 2 and 3 if you wish.

its relates to rendering tasks, but how on earth do you go about explaining measuring the area and how you figure out the ammount of sand/cement/plasticiser/waterproofer i've searched the net but theres no real answer, theres plenty of online calculators that figure it out for you tho but that doesnt help much
 
Yes, Im doing the Level 3 Diploma atm. These questions are they in the blue test unit books you have to do?

It's a good course though isn't it well worth doing for all the specialist fibrous stuff and all the curved work you have to do. It's a nice change from doing straight walls all the time.
 
whats a level 3 diploma any how.why cant you just do your nvq 1.2.3 and get qualified any how.
or is it something to do with being work based.

Firstly how to measure a wall, width times height times thickness but im sure you knew that bit now ring up travis perkins or other merchants and they will ........................ LOL only kiddin. Depending on the mix your doing ie 3-1 4-1 0r 5-1 the sand will increase, lets say a bag of sand (not sure whats in a bag might be 25kg) covers 1 metre and cement the same at 25mm thick, a 20 metre wall will need 15 sand and 5 cement at 3-1 thats the easy convertion i cant be arsed gettin the calculator out for different mixes. Waterproofer goes so far its on the side of the tub divide it into the 20m same with the feb so in other words you need to work out how far a bag of cement and sand goes at what thickness, Now here comes the slagging off hahahahahahahaa
 
thanks for that, only downside is i dont have a clue ho far a bag of sand goes at whatever thickness i decided to ramble on about not alot important and then put for example: (and then included a screenshot of an online calculator) im aware i may well be asked ro elaborate but sod it atleast the pper is in on time, feels like being back at school!



scouse, i've not gone through any test unit books yet, well i did do a rendering paper last week but i dont remember it being blue? the essay im currently doing is module 3020 and i dont think it has anything to do with my final grade in any way which is crap cos its still got to be done? are you doing the same kinda thing?does beat just messing about doing straight walls and i quite enjoy the fibrous work, deff makes a change.

diploma 3 is basically just all the training for the nvq 3, only reason im doing it is cos im on a 3 year apprenticeship with my local council, i could say i dont want anymore certificates as i have my nvq 2 but i might aswell since im paid to do it and it keeps my job safe for a while, they got rid of 2 lads just finishing their apprenticeship in september
 
tis good as you have another year to practice and learn new stuff but, can always do jobs aswell as college unless your getting busy etc, once you've done both the diplomas getting your NVQ afterwards is so easy, take a few photos, get some copies of invoices for materiels etc and the odd bit of paperwork and a few visits from your lecturer and your sorted, barely any college work involved especially if you have the same lecturer at college as he will see you do the practical work while doing the diploma so wont really need to come and see you do it again on a job unless he really wants to
 
If you have the opportunity to gain further qualifications and more skills take it coz the older you get the more difficult it is to go back and get them, Having a level 3 may be the difference you need to getting a job in the future.
 
yeah well said flynnman, i dont think i'll be needing my NVQ3 but i want to get it incase i lose my job where i am currently
 
think you also get a gold cscs card with nvq 3? which is great till an old boy without qualifications puts you to shame but who cares, you have a better cscs card :RpS_thumbsup:

That is the main thing lol but keep your voice down on here the mere mention of CSCS or GOLD CSCS can cause a massive uproar from the green eyed monster:RpS_laugh:
 
i agree,although i did my nvq level 3 ten year since and it hasnt made a jot of difference to me to be honest.

I thought NVQ2 was the highest...

anyway working out the sand and cement thing, i was shown all that on level 1 , city and guilds

You'll probably be able to do a course to get your level 3 when you're languishing in the nick a.d. :RpS_lol:
 
has anyone ever been told show certificates before getting work? wasn't there some nonesense that in 2010 (or whatever year it was) all workers had to be a qualified skilled worker to be on site? think it was to cut down the ammount of foreign cheap labour or was that just the cscs card?

All workers do have to be qualified to get a CSCS card in the chosen trade they do, that is what the CSCS card is and its nothing to do with foreigners coz they also can get the card.
