What's wrong with a finger/thumb combo ruled off to the frame with the 90 of the trowel?! Then check it with a straight edge and remove any surplus.

Take a measurement of frame and use trowel top and bottom to set parallel to frame!

Then still f**k them up!!!

So how many of you make sure that the frame margins are the same throughout a whole house?

Always if we're boarding & floating.

Yes in each room but throughout there will be variables.

I'm only talking about jobs where your floating or dabbing out, not reskims.
I have a pair of adjustable angle gauges which I set up to suit the frames and then go right through a house using those settings.

set stop bead to frame equal margins then square angle bead off it and float in

I can only think of one job I've done where they spec'd using stop beads up the frames, and have never used them otherwise.

now your going back old school stuff when each reveal was measured and the whole house set out to to the widest one sometimes leading to a very heavy coat on window wall this was before angle beads were made

Yeah although beads were in common use when I started in 81, the firm I started with were still using rules. Possibly the most boring job having to denail and clean the rules as a labourer.
