i am considering using monocouche d pral on my new house.
however it is pretty open to the driving rain and wind.
i wastold recently that the elevation that does not get any sunlight will grow algae more than other elevations.
1. is this true?
2. what alternative have i ifthere is one?
NB i am going with coloured render to get out of painting every 5-7 years.

thanks

there is a block of flats on the waterfront at brightlingsea that has gone green with algae, it was a light coloured mono. when built about 7 years ago.

You will find that those renders are not 100% maintenance free and are classified more accurately as low maintenance :-)

what is low maintenance ?
i have seen a block of flats , finished in mono a couple of years ago, that has now been repainted .

The guy that posted this thread seems to be under the impression that mono will require no maintenance whatsoever (apart from his concern about the algae growth). I'm just making him aware that it is not maintenance free :-)

theres nothing wrong with mono,
once applied apply a transparent sealer on.
some renders are better than others at not greening.

Excuse my ignorance to these types of renders, but when you say sealer do you mean a Thomson water seal type product. The ones that after being applied look like the wall has been polished with car wax and runs the rain off.
