Multi finish

Having major problems with multi finish at the minute it ain't flash setting but after a bag pulls in really quick and 1 bag hits just don't look good to the people I'm working for haven't changed how I'm plastering in 17 years so just wondered if anyone else was getting this at the minute, when people were moaning about it i thought it couldn't be that bad but last few days felt right up against it I'm based in London was also wondering if it's just here,
Cheers

All our sites have switched back to board finished because multi just wasn't finishing right every bag was different

I used multi for about a year, to start I liked it alot better than boardy but probably around 3-4 months it started getting s**t, was gritty and the finish didn't feel as good, then the setting times as you say were always different. Went back to boardy and its much much better

Cheers chaps I've had a call round and everyone is saying same thing that its almost as if it's one bag and no more I've tried mixing up normal then a bit wetter but it don't change also when it's finished looks pukka but once pink I swear it looks dreadful until painted I've changed things like just wetting trowel instead of a little splash clean water from tap proper clean whisk and still the same we are all miles apart so just wanted to see and if anyone got any ideas think board finish might be a good shout

Ours is same pagey looks mint thru the drying process but wen its fully dry after a few days looks abit mucky..c**t give a fck tho tbh as it looks mint wen its painted which is all that matters

We had a good 2 weeks of shite multi 2/3 months ago.

Were experiencing the same problems, some sets troweling up lovley others being a nightmare, had a few dry back dark then light then feeling furry others dragging etc.

We were adiment it was the pva causing the problems, but done a load of ceilings on board and were getting flash sets and hanging sets.

Mixes were bringing water to the top when left on the spot and other times eating water while mixing.

We switched suppliers 3 times, and in the end it was ok again.

Wouldn't of noticed it to much if it was just little walls, ceilings etc but we were doing a room each a day and definitely realised something was up. That was between 3 spreads and a labourer.

But its been fine again for the past couple of months

I expect they start giving the shite bags down south then work it up all the way to Scotland!

That what you just said about after its mixed water starts coming to top is what I am getting I even thought am I over mixing but how can i get a basic wrong like that I've tried every which way as you do but still the same I be honest it's a bit of a relief that it ain't just me been a bit paranoid over it lucky the builder is alright and said he will get a coat of paint over it I dunno what to do really suppose switch to board finish and go from there

It looks proper pony mate I swear as if you can see everywhere I've trowelled u can't feel the marks but just don't look how I've normally got it,like you say shouldn't worry to much as when painted it's fine but just annoying more than anything

I wudnt worry about colour it sets pal there's more to worry about in the world than that, aslong as it looks puka painted that's all I'm arsed about

It's first time I've had to chase it in a long time kitchy lucky most of us can pull back round and make it decent just wanted to know if it was just me cos I was scratching my head last few days over it

I reckon it's gonna be gypbond pva uni finish then multi then loads of water to control it :frenetico:
My mate is a southerner as well he says it's all the cash in his pocket that slows him down when skimming :bailando:

Have you thought of just trying half a bag if a full bag is to much for ya :guitarra:

:risas: :risas2:
:wtf:

I was getting greedy doing 1 bag gold bullion is down a bit at the minute and wanted to cash in you can't rush class in London so I suppose it's back to doing half a bag for me tomo only gonna earn £400 for it though

Boardy is better,,,but be aware if you put it on top of a undercoat such as bonding it can craze in certain circumstances.
If it drys out too quickly on wrong substrate.

f**k me pagey it cant be that bad lol..2 of us did a 7 bag hit 2 weeks ago..

I'm telling ya I've never experienced this all in date as well got some fresh bags for tomo so gonna go with it I must of hit a well bad batch I only do 2-3bags hit tops anyway on domestic I think it will be alright it's just adapting quickly if it does go but seems loads are having trouble though

ive found this past few months , have started using carlite (also shite on anything other than S&C) and Ultra finish which is quite good.

What im finding is it looks different mixing it , im finding it hard to keep consistency , looks right but ends up pish and have to add more.
Also has that water rising thing and seems sticky and plasticky spreading it.
Some bags go fast to start then hang for ages , but mostly hang then flash set out of nowhere.
Doesnt cut as well as it used to and generally crap.

Try the Ultra if you can get it

So glad you've Posted this, I've just plastered near enough a full empty house so have had the benefit of seeing once dried.

Anyway nice but quite high skim suction background and because its for a friend and no pressure decided to have a really nice steady plod 1 bag mixes on very tight and topped with same gear but as background had plenty suction equivelent of a fresh 2nd.

Anyway mixes perfect, laid on and troweled up perfect, I only ever use a light amount of water brushed along ceiling, skirtings and internal edges and pull strokes from that as a we trowel.

Admittedly ibdont f**k about with fresh water I just usecwhatevers in washbout buckets.

Not a single ripple, blemish, trowel line, scab anything genuinely flawless when trowelled up.

Went and looked back at rooms when dried ,WTF horrendous like you say can't feel anything and I know it Will be bangvon when painted but fooook me look like abdoloute dogvshit!!!

The only way I know to improvecis to run spongefloat over entire wall at wet trowel stage that leaves it perfect uniform if familiar!

Don't understand the problem with it looking rough when dry. Our job is to get it it flat, smooth and plumb. Take your money and let the painters make it pretty.

I will say i cringed a bit when I walked in and the builder was rubbing his hands over it now miss coated looks fine but it's just the look of it as if you can see every which way I've been glad it's painted and can't see it I'm more pleased that it ain't just me though

Little update same place brought new multi off a fresh pallet and didn't have any problems although ain't seen it dry yet
