Multi problems

Used a couple bags a few weeks ago and took fookin ages to go off it was ridiculous, had weird tiger stripes going through it ! Would say it was down to the cold like the other posts but it was roasting at the time. Mix was grainy as tho , same as the dri wall adhesive has went these days don't know if anyone has noticed that ?

Last 40 bags of board finish we have had have been terrible like trowelling up chewing gum some bags today all the fat was really wet with next to no water on and once it starts to set it's going fast as fook even though it was hanging around prior to being second coated ! Have also had different shades of the stuff when you mix it up awful at min might go bk to multi for a bit

the new pallet of multi has been almost like the multi of old when it was actually decent to use.
it mixed properly was quite creamy didn't fire off particularly quick.
speedskim 2 dry trowels and whore a load more on.
i really hope this is the start of bg getting their act together.
I actually enjoyed throwing it on today instead of dreading the next gauging.

I thought it was just the boy wonder not cleaning the drum out properly but both board and multi are canny gritty. Must be all that left over uni they are dumping in it

We've always called the multi in cold weather winter mix as it does change. BG, do you alter the retarder or is it storage in colder warehouses altering the setting times and consistency?

Maybes a bit of extra time might help some spreads out.. Found that it makes plaster nice and creamy as well as give a little extra time.

Maybe the colder damper conditions?

BG could come on and tell us what the score is but they wont.
Complaints dept is currently busy:whistle:

I just buy mine from wickes when needed bags are always nice and warm, though Wickes is just down the road for me. To be fair I don't ever really have problems with multi but then it always seems to take me 3 hours from first mix to finish whatever the size

Anyone else remember the plaster shortage 10-15 years ago when I think there plant had problems we was getting stuff in from France some white finish plaster stuff was alright to be fair

I remember about ten years ago in Ireland skimcoat was scarce and we used Fp90 I think it was called from Knauf. It was'nt bad, similar to mp finish.

Yes that was due to a death in the factory and shut stuff down until health safety gave all clear.

In response to your query, we don't alter the retarder in the formula throughout the year. Storage and use in colder weather does have an effect on set times, mostly when the conditions are very cold

Still doesn't explain the inconsistency of the product. People here speak of "chewing gum, grit, no set, stripes, too much set" .we all know the weather plays a part, but.......

@ British gypsum can you answer this nothing has changed the way we mix put on etc but for the last 2/3 weeks now every board we go over is drying like nobody's Buisness in certain areas and staying wet in others on the first coat and sometimes on the second it's like the boards have loads of suction on them on certain areas .

I phoned in on Friday to ask what's going on with the plaster, past two weeks been horrendous. Friday the plaster was changing colour while we were troweling it, greasy as hell and still soft but colour changing as if it had been finished a few hours. Waiting on someone to phone me back.

It's ok 4 British gypsum to come on here but u need to go out with plasterers
U prob sit in the office drinking tea all day I have notice the different in finish. Since I ave be doing since 1983 3 hours a set when board finish is 2 hours a set
Need answers not bullshite

Multi is crap compared to carlite here anyways. Last house we done was with the ultra bags, this house with the normal carlite red bags. Trowels up lovely

Ireland (northern Ireland) is the carlite only a gyproc Ireland product, not available in England? Thistle bonding goes off quicker than gyproc bonding though, it's better.
