My builder has used normal plasterboard on the bathroom walls. Should I be worried?

Hi. I had a stud wall built for the bathroom and the builder used normal plasterboard, skimmed and tiled around the shower enclosure. I've subsequently been told this will fail? I can't imagine removing everything to start again. How will this hold up? Thanks

Skimmed then tiled, as long as goodgrouting and sealant done and checked now n then it should be ok.

Should be alright as it's been skimmed, tiler would probably have sealed the plaster before tiling aswell.
If it would have been straight onto the normal plasterboard it could be a problem. Not recommended.

Using standard plasterboard for tiling onto is a cheap ass way of doing things imo
If he was a half decent builder he would’ve use products better suited for the job and not cut corners
They don’t make tilebackers, aqua panels MR boards etc… for the fun of it

They don’t need to be skimmed and can hold the weight of a tile better than any standard board

Because if ye want a board that does not get destroyed by water then use cement boards what is the point of a half way house and why would anyone put in a board in a bathroom that they are willing to let water get to anyway

Agree with you there pal cement board always better than a gypsum board but what I’m saying is if you’re gonna use gypsum board in a tiled wet area then an unskimmed MR board is far better than a skimmed standard

If it’s well grouted and sealed it’ll be fine. Yeah yeah there are way better boards to use than standard but it’s not worth losing sleep over

I agree with @Monkey Boy about moisture boards. Don’t see their value
