New Build Plaster Skim - Gloucestershire

I've been disappointed with the last few plasterers we've employed on our new build. We've had the ground floor fully plastered and are now looking to have the first floor and loft floor plaster skimmed. I've completed all the studwork boarding but need the block work dot and dabbed along with plaster skimming the two floors.

Any plasterers in the Gloucestershire area interested in quoting for this job? We're located half way between Gloucester and Ross-On-Wye. We want a high quality finish from someone with attention to detail and who takes pride in their work.

Sorry to sound boring, but when you say dissapointed, what do you mean? with there work? the quality with there finish? to many blemishes , trowel marks, board joints etc? or just there attitude or work ethic....... just being nosey sorry....

They were just nosey ***** ;)
 
Lots of the reasons you just listed. They also made mistakes leading to remedial work. Poor finish in areas with trowel marks and some cracking around corners where beading was poorly installed. Attitude generally poor with promises of perfection which were never achieved.

Maybe we've just been unlucky but by far it's been the worst trade we've employed and worked with.

On a positive note we've had one response from this thread request and he was a breath of fresh air in comparison to what we've been used to.

It's not the trade Andy it's the chancers that YOU picked.
Should've done your research a bit better before employing the rough ********

As you said, the plasterer you got off here was a breath of fresh air, so maybe you should've come on here asking first, at least you know for next for next time eh :RpS_wink:
 
I did do my research. In fact I went out of my way to choose the correct trades for my build. This is a project which has taken me six years to complete and I have been very careful who I've chosen.

From speaking with other trades and other customers I'm afraid it IS the trade. You may feel differently being in the trade itself but from my point of view the standards in the industry are poor. May sound harsh but that's my opinion.

You're entitled to your opinion even if you are wrong...

There is millions of ruff ass plumbers, sparks, joiners,brickys etc, you know but 99% of them first fix then the plasterer comes in and remerdies the sh*ite work to make it look presentable... The second fixers is where it matters and you'll find that they should be good at there job (should be)

However I guess it's not a trade which requires a high degree of intelligence.

Andy , Andy its only banter, there are many great plasterers who have both the skills to do,the work and the people skills to deal with everyone else, I have been on both sides employing people and obviously working for people myself, mostly developers who renovate or change houses to flats etc, been doing it 25 yrs, I have had many happy customers and many many repeat customers, who,recommended me also, I probably have done 2 million pounds worth of plastering through a 2 and 1 gang over the years and I am only minute in the industry, I,have also bought and sold properties , 3 flats six houses etc, it is very difficult for a person who does one off properties to get in decent trades, you need to,be at it around the clock to have the pick of the best of the trades, I have had,disappointments with all trades at some stage ,plasterers included. I also have been disappointed in the clients, builders architects,designers etc. to get it all to work smoothly takes luck as well as planning.

A job like yours should be bread and butter stuff for plasterers, I cannot see how they were incapable of getting it right, possibly substandard tradesmen or idiots who underpriced and tried to rush it, were they recommended to you?

Andy being a plasterer requires a lot of intelligence as it allows you to read other people very well.
From the way you type I reckon your a pilot.
Also I can tell you drive or have driven a mercedes slk probably silver in colour.
You like to try and do things on your pc yourself like files, programmes etc.
Also I know for a fact you have been on youporn & don't try & deny it :RpS_wink:

Yeh were all thick as feck!!! But I bet we could pick out a good spread from a bad spread and kick him off the job first day, before he fecks up the whole downstairs of your new build....:rolleyes)
 
Did you ask any of the other trades if they could recommend anyone?

If anyone asks us if we know another trade (joiners/plumbers/decorators etc) there are only a few tradesmen that we've known over the years who we know do a sh*t-hot job and really take pride in their work. After all it's our name as well as we've recommended them.

also there's a common phrase in the building trade '..the plasterers will get over it..'
Usually used by wood-butchers et-al. If we fall short of producing miracles over crap first-fixing then who do people blame? Not the brickies who lay more rows than they should leaving bowed walls, not the joiners who don't lay their stud work out right or use banana-wood.. I could go on.

We are a finishing trade, so we're expected to clean everyone's shite up, cover all the crap work up and give the painters an easy day..

Anyway, hope you get someone.
