To day i started this job i posted about a few week ago were segs/Chris helped me with e-maild to try a new approach with this..

what a day again 7am till 8pm!

OK job was a wall were all the old render was shot and all needed to come of and rerenderd with s&c

needed 3 coats as it was Very Very thick

the way iv was told to do it was to apply 3 coats in one day to save alot of time!

useing fibers!

hack of all old render then apply 1st scratch coat *F*uck off for and hour get rid of rubbish ect

then apply second coat,*F*uck off for about 2 hours then apply 3rd coat

sounds easy?

Well i have hardly and backing coat or rendering experience so it was a challenge and also i have a plastering bath no mixer! we used 22bags or plastering sand!

rendering is hard how do you get it to stay on the wall lol i thick we made it to thick first time round as we could get it to stick on the wall! and same with second coat.. then on 3rd we wet it up.. but it only tryed a straight edge on it on 3rd coat witch was hard as i needed to do alot of leveling out and i dint have much experience in using the straight edges again.. (under and around windows and sockets are hard!)

any ways we got it on in the end and am ganna skim ta moro got sum pick to show how it went

i might take a course on rendering soon found to day very hard and I'm guessing must plasteres could do this in half the time!

thanks for ur help segs any how.

I must be reading this wrong .a plasterer that has no experience of rendering. floating.using levels.and needs talking through 3 coat work.but manages to make a living self employed.how did you become a plasterer.

Looks ok ... bit pi ssed on the skirting line but you can quickly mix up a small batch of thick skim and straighten it out tomorrow.

also I would have devil floated it (float with nail's in)

The key to rendering is the mix, its much nicer to use when it has been mixed properly in a mixer so its light and fluffy, when s/c is dead its horrible and hard work, to many people dont mix it properly and suffer.

Good effort

Rich

all my work is multi finish over skim board work.. and patchs.. i just stay away from the rendering side..

thanks rich.. yea maybe if i tryed to level it out on second coat it would have made top coat much easyer to use.. and i did scrach it up before i left..

as for getting it to stay on the wall oasis you have to push the material into the wall dont try to spread it

yea lol i was 2hands on trowel at one point! i thick iv learnt alot and would do a better job next time round.

fair comments.if i may add a little plasterciser.and waterproofer would make life easier+ mixer.

What mix did you use ???

You must use waterproofer/plasticiser and let it mix for 10 min using the minimum amount of water, let it fluff up, the difference is you will enjoy rendering rather then having an aching arm and it falling off the wall and being a tw at to rule off.

mixers are only £15 a day to hire, as mr brown says, its not worth knocking render up by hand.

exactly.first attempt think you may have been better dubbing out scratch coat.then whilst waiting set yourself some dots lined them in then screeds, would have made it easier and more accurate work. once used to doing it do away with screeds.you can sometimes have problems doing the way that you have as you may return to find severe cracking due to shrinkedge.and materials not thoroughly mixed.

looks good oasis !! Stay away from rendering mate to much hard work !!! Stick with skimming and D&D ing.
If you make a living that way stick with it .
Why didnt ya mix it with ur paddle mixer in the bath in the room you were working in if you were using bags ????
Ive mixed cement many times in the bath with a paddle no good by hand like the guys say.

i did use my paddle . and used waterproofer..dint think id need many mixes! i had a mixer to use any time i wanted lol

nut sure just at thick old wall!and i dint D&D for 2 reasons
1 i need the experience of S&C
2. Window wall dint want any chance of the boards gettin wet in the future and all..
other wise id of used hardwall or bonding same prob.

i dont think it is single skin..if you look out the window in photo you can see theres a cavity as the wall juts out several inches.
I think becuse of how the sills have been design it looks like it single skin.
Trust me on this one.

how much do u thick i charged for this 2 day job? or wot would u charge there was a patch down satairs 2..its was up stairs this job 2.. ina posh street not much room 2 mix in the road and had to be clean on site. ...

yea lil lil more but about that., have a lab on for 2 days aswell and spent £150 on materials so even dow its just wall and cost a lot i still dnt make that much out it,harsh on the customer to as its alota money for one area..but i find in theys houses i could easily do the hole house! its all on its way out,

gana use a mixer next time. thanks 4 all the help.. this site helps me out alot and i listen to alot of things people say..

thats how you gotta look at it mate...be poilte.clean up every day after work and work for a fair price and theyll have you back and reccommend ya to others.

we used 20 bags plus cement..also we are skimin it to moro as well mate..plus flooring protection ect had ta be clean!

hwen ever possible mix it in the room, save time and cleaning adn so much quicker, ive even mixed it up in gorilla tubs in the room in the past to save me bringing it up stairs

Looks good , especially if you have never done any render work .Juts work on that skirting line and all should be top notch mate .

masking tape and a masking paper machine springs to mind leaves the skirtings mouldings and other edges looking sharp and easier to clean up plus just being a old git here but keep your trowel handle clean cant be good for the hands when dirty

Did you use plasticiser m8? fook me i remember a time when i started out where i ran out of plasticiser 1 wall left...tried to get it on quickly with out plast in the mix...freaking nightmare had to take it all off and finish it next day lol.

A good mix and render will go on a treat love it...you actually feels like u've acheived something when u float and set. I prefer it a quite wet...easier to spead...like butter thats been left out in the sun for a while ;)

i did use sharp as i was told it will stick to the wall better...? as soft sand falls off 2 easy? so for first coat i did 75% sharp and 25% plasterin sand then 2nd coat 50/50 then final coat 15%sharp and 85% plastering sand

Don't bother changing sand everytime m8 just use 100% plastering sand, plasticiser. Waterproofer if necessary.

HOLME SAND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....... ;D........its local sand mate get it from travis use it for everything ;)

im doing a job exactly the same at the mo mate and am having a mare im getting no suction from the scratch coat :(
when doing external walls or after damp treatment does the wall have to be sand/cement all the way through or can you just do a scratch then dab or drycoat and dab ???
