Dont worry, they wont be chatting about it for long ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

when you ask what the two types of cyma-recta are, i take it you wanna know there from roman and greek origin. roman mouldings are from parts of a circle, and greek mouldings are parts of an ellipse

And as flnnyman states sugar was used as a retarder, and doesnt overly effect the strength of the finish thats done in the mix with water content. Its the same as using tri sodium citrate in your mix as the retarder

i read somewhere once that the roman and greeks went into jobs and asked customers to cut the middle man out who got the original jobs..and ask the customers to go with them instead at a cheaper price.... no-wonder those greeks and roman fell in the end.......NO WAY TO DO BUSINESS is it si .....in fact its pretty low don't u think!!!!

just been checking in my books and there is actually three types of cyma recta and three types of cyma reversa/ogee but there is no mention of any names that separate the, only how to set them out.

on the subject of sugar, yes it can be used as a retarder and YES IT DOSE MAKE TH MIX STRONGER! Ref: PLASTERING PLAIN & DECORATIVE by W MILLER published by DONHEAD page 52-54 its all there flinster in black and white.
oh an its quite interesting, there is a part that states if you add a certian amount of sugar to water then the water will hold 14 times as much lime.

i was going to copy whole page for you but its late and i cant be bothered.

can you please tell me the names of the cymas as it is starting to bug me that i cant find them any where?

They could put it in the members section with everything else!!! ;D

it would probably be best in the new to plastering section were beginners could get info without being scared off. but every one could benefit from this because not one person knows everything there is to plastering. someone who is an expert in one area ie fibrous plastering might want to know something simple about external stucco or vice versa do you know what i mean mate :)

wooooooooooooooow talk for yourself my friend i am an expert in plastering and know everything coz i was taught everything do you not know i am advanced craft, skills tested and british gypsum award winning plasterer 1990?

ok smart arse why did they used to add sugar to portland cement in the 1800's and when was eml first invented? oh and what ratio do you set a pediment in relation to the columns that hold it up?

they added sugar as a retarder lath was invented around 1967/68 and i take it your talkin about the golden ratio?

another one from the big book, metal lathing was invented by EDMUND CARTWRIGHT and he obtained a patent in 1797.

been around for hundreds of years that stuff mate ;D
