Just wondering how many are actually timed serverd tradesmen here, no offence to all chancers out there, but you really are killing my trade by going in with silly prices, when this is our livelyhood

But they're trying to make it their livelihoods, that's the trouble mate:ohmy:
Blame the 1 week courses on offer and everyone dreaming of the megabucks to be so easily made.:RpS_mad:
And yes I'm time served.:RpS_thumbsup:

1 week to learn this game im still learnin 25years down the line there is somethin new poppin up all the time your not tellin me you can learn how to render all the diff backgrounds in one foookin week the nobs they will learn an soon come unstuck

im time served , and you would love around my way , fireman plastering for £60 a day , and boys skimming for £80 , but its life and theres nothing we can do .

theres lads working where i am so far theyve asked

how long do you leave it before you float it
how do you bring out dabs thicker
do you have to stick skim stops over 10mm stops
what do you use to stick angle beads

bar doing it for them i cant help them anymore

Shop the fireman.......... That's why they want to strike - so they can retain their 'rest days/weeks' and do these jobs on the quiet for cash, driving their anual salary UP and ours DOWN - smug tossers:RpS_mad:

I dont wanna get into the fireman debate thing but: lets just say i never pap my horn when they are outside on strike wanting support.

I just think with the country in such a state holding it to further ransom and using bonfire night as your target is nothing short of criminal.
its a good job, people bend over backwards to get in when reqruitment comes around and I know lads that have gone in and say they would never go back to their old jobs. its safer than working on a building site according to the death toll numbers so i think they should be gratefull and get on with it...... stick em out on site in winter as a spread or a renderer on pricework? they would probably go back too the brigade for less money than before imo

Its the way it is mate. Lets face it brickies , joiners sparks have a go. I had a job relaying tiles at my local fire station that was a eye opening fire fighters plumbers painters etc one of them was even painted a office and chargeing them on his time of duty .
i se,rved 6 yrs when I was 18 I was faster then most of the spreads I work with but still paid peanuts until I was 21 . I dont really think you can learn much on a 1 wk course or maybe you can I never seen any of these guys plastering work so who knows. If you do a good job and only been in the game month so what so long as you do a good job that what matters.

i think its a minefield drawn into political debates , but i think whatever what goes on in the world some coont will all ways moan about something .

while i never went to college, I did get my qualifications. i laboured for years and slowly learned the majority of aspects of the trade. so i'd like to consider myself as time served.

I am not time served but I agree with broonster I spent 5 years working with my family of plasterers. I also attended various colleges to learn fibre etc.
I have come across time served spreads who are *******
If you do a couple of weeks course where do you get to learn float & set, rendering floor, floor screeding , running cornice etc

I'm a 5 day courser!

However, in my defence, I spent 20 years labouring for just about every trade in the industry but couldn't get a start with any plasterers once i got my arse in gear and decided to get a trade. Once I'd done my course i got a start and got shown how to do it properly!

I work for myself now and all my work is recommendations and repeat work from builders etc.

I agree with bubbles, you have to blame the people running the courses for making unfair promises to the bods who just want to make something of themselves.

i partially agree pug, although if someone gets caught for speeding they can't blame ferarri for making the car do 200mph.

99% of my work is for or through people who do work for drylining companys who havent got a f**k**g clue anyway and aslong as its pink couldnt give a toss and dont know the difference anyway rant rant moan moan

I have seen some absolute shitey by time served spreads, just cos you have done something for a long time does not meen your good.Look at Oasis van, Renault have made vans for years, and there still kin s**t.

f**k**g hell pug , what on earth made you pick plastering

Brickies and ground workers are slaves to the weather, I spent enough time sitting in site huts not getting paid when I was on the hod. Not clever enough to be a sparky. Plumbers are c**ts. Chippies are wankers.

Always had a laugh with plasterers and I actually like hard work, can't sleep unless unless I'm knackered!

i'm time served,3 years block release. the thing i learned most in collage is how to use the trowel and not drop the plaster on the floor.

i was lucky that my employer didn't use me as a cheap labourer £30 a week yts

i'm thinking of doing a course on firefighting or cake decorating

good point there pal

lets say someone brought out a five day firemans course or a five day rozzer course or politician course..... there would be uproar and a massive industry backlash from their industries slamming it and closing it down damning the very idea.

So what the fook makes these cnuts think they can do it to us and its acceptable? you cant become a fireman in five days and you cannot become a plasterer in five days - simple. but we have to put up with it happeneing and then pricing against such articles. JOKE

I aint saying you must have a 5 year apprenticeship under your belt but i do beleive you need to be in with a firm as a lab for at least 2-3 years working with experienced guys who can teach you. that should be a minimum and if you get your level 3 nvq on the way then bonus.

Kebab King yes i Agree so have i, but it still not right that these people pass themselve off to paying customers as something there not and leaveing a total mess in there wake, hence the C.S.C.S was ment to put a halt to all this.
