dpends on what your wanting to do if your doin domestics then no but you cant walk onto site without them theyll basically tell you to fook off

Scotts about right, the firm i work for are even training the old boys of 55+ to get them on site!

anyone whos 55+ and is still on a trowel has got to be either extremely good/fit or...well lets just say that opportunities come and go..
yeh go on, have me for it.... ;D

My old man was still plastering right up until he died at 65 and i know he had no intention of giving it up :o Thats what were all in for mate.

same here bod i've never being asked i can't see the point myself youre either good or not, we don't have to review our skills yearly like other trades ...
the chap who tought me was 67 seggs and he'd still murder half the lads i work with !!!! .......plastering was his hobby bless him i was very lucky ......cheers pete ;)

bloody hell bod....im 36 and yes i understand that if you keep your fitness levels up you can still throw it on...but the way things are goin, we need to throw on 50-60 metres a day to make us look like 'plasterers'...i reckon the moneys goin out of the game...
its hard graft, but the lessons have been learned over the years, people can teach people quicker, people are plasterin full time age 21...footballers and squaddies get binned at 30 for a good reason...
only reason im in it is cos that theres still a call for it...people think its alchemy or something...
no disrespect to your old man bod but that was then...he prolly did alright out of it, but do you think youre gonna be on a trowel at his age??...
not to mention the big influx of wannabe plasterers....i only do it cos i can...now everyf'ckers a plasterer...

all that said, anyone that enjoys what they do will still do it no matter what age...good on em for makin it work 8-)

ive been plastering 9-10 yrs never needed nvq's, did 1 year at college in luton but didnt finish as i already knew it all so was a waste of time travelling from ipswich to luton. i only wanted the certificate, but aint needed it anyhow. if you can plaster u can plaster, now though its these wannabes that have done a one week course who cant plaster who are gettin all the work cos of their dirt cheap prices????? people wonder why i get jobs where i re do other bodgers new skimmd plaster??? pay peanuts ya get monkeys!!!

Do we really need them , lets have your opinnion on this .Must admit I`m torn either way.

If you get a chance to get them i would, work is getting a bit tight and it wont be long before you may lose out on a job because someone with quals comes in with the same price but the quals get it. Site work now and in the future your gonna need them and i can see domestic customers using them as bargaining tool.

Fecking hell lads!!!! yer making feal old ,i'm only 43 :o all though i look and feel much older, before i get get any smart arsed comments 8-)

i am currently learning the trade with an experienced pro, eventually i wanna break out on my own and plan to work domestic, i do not ever wanna step bk on a building site (used to laubour - not for plasterers)

i have no interest in gaining nvq, a course i did bk in the day was promoting it, but i stil can be assed, dont need it for what i wanna do 8-)

I was chatting to a mate of mine today and his mate who's a spread was working on a site in the city center, he had to have all the cscs and nvq to get onto site, plus the health and safety was apparentley right over the top they did a card system in there and anyone caught without any ppe was given a yellow card and if they got 2 they then got a red card and then got chucked off site, plus they cant work on any of there other sites. He got a yellow card for not wearing a hard hat and was issued a yellow card he told them to stick the job up there arse and just walked off site ;D

been screeding on site on an operatives card, all 3 foremen know this, not one is bothered, i guess it depends on the site,. this one is £15,000,000 worth of hotel. i've always thought papers were worth having but not so sure now....
