Sorry to bring up a serious conversation as I know most things are a laugh on here but had a really odd day with my dad today. He's 73 so getting on a bit, he twice asked me to come and work for his company today....he hasnt ever owned a company and then he told me he has invented perpetual motion but I need to keep secret as if the goverment find out they will stop him.....does this sound like alhezeimers....i have no experience with the disease and wondered if anyone on here does.....i dont know anyone I could ask and thats why im asking on here....google says delusions can be sign.

Please no piss takes as this is my dad and im really worried.

No lives with my mum, always had an interest in perpetual motion, quite an interesting subject but never any delusional talk like today....feel rotten telling my mum and worrying her but cant think what to do.

Sorry to hear that mate. Delusions and paranoia can be symptoms. There's usually a history of it in the family, did your grandparents or any aunts or uncles suffer with it? Might be worth mentioning to your mum. She's more Likely to have noticed something though. May be she's worried to say something to you.

But i'm no expert
Will be a shame if thats the case, he was helping me put up a fence, humping round 8ft concrete posts on his own....seems his mind is gonna give out far before his body.

Just monitor it for the moment ,without worrying your mother, perhaps ask her some subtle questions if he's been odd lately ,she might not want to worry you as well if she thinks the same , but I think your right to worry and anymore odd things straight down the doctors, hope it's nothing more than his personal interest in perpetual motion lodan

Cheers superspread think your right, my mum loves to go to M & S clothes shopping so think i'll offer to take her and try and ask a few gentle questions......sorry for the s**t thread all, as you were, just couldnt help but ask.

I wouldn't just keep an eye on if mate it sounds like he is loosing it sorry to sound blunt. I have a family member who we tried brushing under the carpet his odd things until we had to get him sectioned. My mates mam has alsimers and he hoped it was just a but got a lot worse, the drugs they have now slows it down and controls it somewhat so get on if straight away and speak to your mam tomorrow, it has probably been going on for a while and she was wishing it away or didn't want to bother or upset you.

f**k off you prick
Chill out chaps, no arguments needed on my part, sound advice from both, my fault for totally off topic thread......gonna ask for some marriage councilling next week.

@Lodan...sorry to hear mate...

I have a little bit of experience with this my granddad has suffered with alzimers for the last 7/8 yrs...

it certainly sounds like something that could be associated with alzimers...delusions have been a big part of it in my/granddads experience...

don't hesitate for 1 minute mate...the sooner you speak to your mom and if shes also noticed things then make an appointment with a doctor...

medication in the early stages can certainly help...so much so that that when my granddads carers hadn't administrated his tablets on a few occasions due to cock ups etc he would start dillusions almost straight away/ within a couple of days...

realy hope that its just a one off mate...

feel free to pm me if you need to ask anything

it does not sound good @Lodan my family have a history of it and by the time I am 60 I will be gone for sure...
Yeah I dont know why im asking I know inventing perpetual motion aint a normal thing to say, was just hoping someone might say he had some dodgy shrimp or something.

If you would of said he had an interest in perpetual motion in the first post I wouldn't of said he was mad straight away lol it's very subtle how Alzheimer's starts my mates mum was putting odd stuff in the fridge which he noticed straight away, just a thought my mates mam wasn't paying any of the bills and was getting a lot of calls which made it worse so if he is in charge of the bills might be worth looking.

Cheers flynnyman, no worries, I know your blunt and didnt take it the wrong way, as I said probably should av stuck to plasterboard and damp instead of going off piste. Mums in charge of everything, was a damn fine plumber/heating engineer but shite at everything else.

Or maybe he has invented perpetual motion and has a couple of firms on the sly ;)

Might be completely wrong mate but a few years back my mum was sat watching tv and starting asking if we can see the butterflies. then asked what time a certain programme from the 70s was on. We started freaking out and she ended up in hospital with really bad kidney stones. not sure what the link was, but it was definitely connected

Thanks mate, you never know and better than all the alternatives....going to bite the bullet and talk to my mum tomorrow and see if my experience is consistant to the way he normally is or if its more a one off.

You could be on to something there my sons nanna had a heart attack a while back and the shock of it sent her head west she could see foxes in her bedroom

My grandad kept having 'funny turns' and everytime it was a UTI. Apparently common in folk of senior years and can send them a bit loopy for a while. Might be nothing to worry about mate.

Why dont you just go and speek to your GP and tell them about your concerns . I have a lot of experiance with this as my dad has a form of dementia and gets very confused sometimes. But as others have said it maybe something totally unrelated and easly treatable. Your GP is the best person to speak to . Hope all works out well as old age in loved ones can be very testing .but never forget your duty of care to them and try to understand what is happening. I hope all goes ok for the future.

The food industry has no financial interest in health, and the medical industry (run and financed by the drug companies) has no interest in food.
Do not expect to be educated about whats good for you by an industry thats interest lies in profit .
