One coat plastering

I have mixed feelings watching the first one, and sorry to say but I won't watch the second one

Careful hail hail I asked about one coating and it turns into a debate lol. I tried it and tbh it's fine spats or trowels whatever. Thick first coat, flatten, leave, sponge, flatten and finish in normal way will produce same finish if your any good with a trowel.

I pretty much always 2 coat as it's habit. But when there's limited suction and your laying second coat on top of still wet plaster...... there really is no difference lol.

I've no idea about the spats, plastic trowels, stainless etc etc etc. I have seen the end result of both single coat and two coat skimming and there's no way I could tell which way it had been done without knowing as both looked fine. Which is the purpose of skim is it not?

Done well it looks good either way, done badly it looks sh1te either way.

Been saying that for a while tho. Have compared the two methods on site and no difference. I started only last year one coating. First flattening is with speedskim and after the sponge too. Next refina spat, which i changed to stiffer blade 0,7mm and trowel . I use s*p*r*lex only for the angles at the end and not so much water as shown in the first video. No idea what's the second one about :D

Are you getting 3 hits in a day or 2 and home earlier?

It depends mate. ££££ dictates. We do first one hit and if suction is ok we do two. If is s**t we do 3 or 4 . There is not much you can do over board and the multi is not consistent .it sets in areas and if you use only trowel is pita to finish- ripples, tigers you name it.If you haven't done it before I suggest you start with small area and don't be afraid. Your hands will thank you for life

I have a c**t of a landing wall to do tomorrow and 2 tight rooms. One has on same wall 1 full board, a 200mm strip of bonding and a painted wall all in 1 lol. It was 2 rooms knocked into one, and where the 2 walls met, they were near an inch difference. The middle wall was knocked away and a board added where it was an inch out dubbed out with boarding compound. The whole wall is getting pv'a'd insead of 3 different backgrounds. Might try the one coat on this wall

dont.......it will only piss you off for not 2 coating.
1 coat is for boards only.

i don't really understand the reasoning. it doesn't appear to be any quicker by the time you've gone through all the steps and drying times. i suppose there's always an argument for anything that makes life easier and takes the strain off the body but sometimes i wonder if plastering is progressing or getting lazy?

its not about being lazy its about £££££

Maybe the latter but thats what we are trying to get at, less work more money. For me anyway lol

yeah you're both right. i just get sentimental about it sometimes.... other times i think fcuk yeah when im down about tennis elbow

Doesnt look like they are spreading onto boards in that first video

yes ...i only watched first few seconds and seen 2 men trying to coat 1 wall.
1 started right in the centre.
i hope the video showed it painted with the sun hitting the room.

theres no need to put so much effort into a wall.

The first video is embarrassing, it always makes me laugh when they make these videos and throw two blokes on it, like I've said in the past some of these tools add extra things to an already tried and tested system. They have one coated by the look of things and that sponge bullshit is embarrassing, I'm not saying don't use one but f**k me they are wetting and sponging and so on, it's cringe, it also looked rough as f**k when the light shines over it towards the end.

I aint seen a sponge finish in plaster,,,but imagine it would be crap though i can be proven wrong, not looked at videos.

The sponge does nothing on multie, different on some Knauf gear but a complete waste of time on multie. The craft is being dumbed down and standards are at an all time low, new tools and materials are coming out with crazy claims and lies backed up by dickheads who have only just picked a trowel up and can polish a wall like glass. It is embarrassing watching some if these videos of skimmers trying to get a free tool and tshirt, doing every thing completely back to front and wrong, with their defence "your stuck in the past".

Steel trowel is the only finish i do,,,plastic, sponges,,,don't want to try if it aint broken why change it though some guys rate them.

If your using them and your getting a better finish carry on, but it only shows you were doing it rough before.

Just the ones your talking s**t in so yes most of them, you have been warned plenty of times about your lies and accusations, you've had plenty of times to explain your lies but you have gone on to tell more. Take it up with Danny I will be moderating all your posts and deleting if it contains more lies and abusive behaviour.

lol I wont be taking anything up , I'm sure he has plenty more important things to be getting on with , me too but obviously not you lol

Only trowel I found good was refina s*p*r*lex and mainly just use 3 different marshalltown, carbon one I'm still trying to fully break in after a year and we'll sharp stainless 13x5

No offence but I use a s*p*r*lex and a speedskim. The s*p*r*lex has only taken away my final trowel that used to be a 11" mt. And it's because it doesn't kill my shoulder. The speedskim works wonders over the crappy walls. Granted I don't need these but they do make my life easier. That comment makes you look like a narrow-minded fool and is actually quite offending.

I don't 1 coat anything. I have tried it once didnt see a benefit but for me it's the destination that's important not the journey.
that ceiling was finished off the floor purely using just the blue bladed plastic speedskim on an extension pole.
It would of looked the same if I'd used Any finishing trowel in my van it would just of required a bit more effort.
One coat plastering

How does it? Are you getting a better finish than before?
