the s*p*r*lex is the best thing since sliced bread. i ahve sixteen as well. ordered the fourteen yesterday at twenty to five. it arrived today at ten to nine, but i was at work .... and they took it away again . :RpS_angry:

When I;m expecting a delivery,. i leave a note ( signed ) saying leave in blue bin, and they always do..

Are you lot getting backhanders from re fina??? Every man and his dog wants one of these now. Think of all the hundreds of lurkers that must have decided they want one after reading some of the most positive reviews I've ever seen in my life. You lot should be on some sort of commission IMO! More than a bloody bottle opener anyway :-/

yeah, @cassie, i let them know on the order to leave it with the next door neighbour, but not the one opposite because she used to send anonymous letters about my van. they even had a section "leave it with neighbour?" and confirmed it by email. but instead they just called at mine ...:RpS_mad: now i've told them to leave it in the brown bin. dont think its brown bin day tomorrow ...:RpS_unsure:

So its a Normal Trowel for Normal People Cassie?? Sounds bit like League of Gentlemen lol :RpS_laugh:

I hope someone can give me an idiots guide on the best way of using the s*p*r*lex from start of set to finish. I dug my one out of the garage this morning after reading this thinking to myself it must be the way forward. I am quite a fan of the plazzy for flattening in. I normally first coat with a stainless trowel , then flatten with a plazzy. second coat with stainless. flatten with plazzy. depending on the size of set I sometimes second trowel with plazzy then cross trowel with stainless and finish with stainless. Sometimes I trowel up just plazzy with great results. This morning I put a 30 metre ceiling on as normal with stainless and felt lets give the s*p*r*lex a go to flatten in. Felt nice to use but when I looked back it looked like dog shite so went back to stainless to second coat and all the trowel ups. Have I used the s*p*r*lex too soon to flatten in because the only way I can describe it is the ceiling just looked piss wet and the trowel made the plaster look worse than when I put it on.

i know what you mean about piss wet. @scottie5 recommends this in another thread:

"I still use my mt for laying on and for the first trowel john, then I switch to the eze/s*p*r*lex and get back on it early 2 wipes with no water and a finish which is spot on. I find if I use it on the first trowel it brings too much moisture to the surface and slows the set time a bit."

just what you're saying. i dont mind that. i just do a bigger hit because you seem to have more time. i do the whole goddamn caboodle with it, now, from start to finish. find it flattens better and leaves fewer trowel lines. stopped using the speeedskim, the tyzack of ten years and the plazzie ..... well i used the plazzie on a winder the other day ....found i was digging in every now and then when first got it because its a wider blade but no longer, its now like an extension of my arm ..

To be honest I'm more than happy with my normal trowels but I just have to have one because of all this hype! I just hope it's not like the plazzy. To me they only work well on straight forward flat walls. Trying to finish bad walls early I think is just polishing ****. And I do a LOT of bad walls! It'd take a hell of a trowel to knock half hour off every set on every type of background! We'll see.

when people go on about a trowel it s a fukin trowel, they should say a s*p*r*lex, its not the usual finishing trowel... its a bendy mother and is different..lol

I dont get this knocks 1/2 off a gauge... if you put enough on, you wont want it going off quick.. be rushing round like a blue arse fly...

Haha exactly, what's he done to us!! @Marshy! Hope it's good, palazzi is ok as you say no good until the wall is flat but does save on the hard troweling..

Half an hour off the set I reckon this is because people use a lot of water but who knows

Let me know when you get one and I'll bet you a pint it saves you time and less effort on the arms to get a bang on finish !! Jesus listen me! I should work for Ribena lol :RpS_wink:

Well yes a bit of common sense needed, I usually chuck 2 - 3 bags on per gauge and the s*p*r*lex allows me to go over that bit earlier and using no water apart from wetting the blade on last 2 trowels I keep an eye on the time and I'm saving give or take half an hour especially on p/boards. Obviously conditions will play a part etc freezing cold empty house compared to a lived in domestic etc I'm only putting in my posts my own experiences.

I got myself a ribena 14" plazzie yesterday and used it only on the last trowel on a big ceiling. Cant say that I was really impressed, might try it earlier in the set next time.
These s*p*r*lex stainless trowels seem appear to be the mutts nutts, going my all the positive feed back on them so I might have to invest in 1.

i agree with you. found they dragged when trowelling up internals. tried it then went back to the steel. will still use for trowelling skim over bonding and artex to keep down the blisters, and liked it for hand turned coves etc. try the s*p*r*lex. had mine just over a week and each time i use it i am still amazed. even ordered a second and im a tight c**t. find that i'm happier in my work. but that might be the 5 htp ...:RpS_unsure:

s*p*r*lex arrived this afternoon and on first inspection i've came to the conclusion its a metal plazzi.

cheers, mate, i will. take it they're good. was looking at them the other day funny enough. want one of those flexi precise floats from them so will combine the postage. was weighing it up against the pavan venetian plastic half way down here:

but reckon they're too rigid. a smaller plastic trowel will be great for little tricky bits

I've had a pavan there alright, the plastic trowels are mint mate just trowel the winder as norm and they find there own way, but I'd still use the ****** one for skimming
