So you go to view a artex ceiling that's flexing too much, what's your plan,

Depends on it’s condition and structural integrity. But 1 of 2 things gonna happen

Screw it back up and skim

Screw it back up, overboard and skim
Ok so lets say you're going for the overboard in this situation and as the ceiling is cracking from flex of joists what's going to change

I understand your point however your making there problem yours!

The correct answer is rip down & get joiner to correct the joists then phone you when ready for plastering!

So anyone repeating the process is taking a chance

It's understandable if the original wasn't staggered or may have been overloaded.

So I stopped putting the butt joints on joists as an extra precaution

Glued half way , propped until set , no accuracy for cuts , all cut square

Oh my days!!!

So your not concerned about said foot traffic makeing adhesive delaminate instead though!

At the very least if you do that you should put noggins in above the boards and screw to them!

So what happens when the board expands and contracts due to the changing moisture content the joint istatement fee to move with no fixings to hold it in place .so guess what Insteine. .......yep it's going to crack.

No mate we're not your off your head!
A strange approach I agree but have done it , glue won't delaminate unless you flood the ceiling ,
new work ; boards cut square to mid joist with glued board stuck to bridge joint ( allow 1" clearance ), glue the joining area , prop and position board, prop join ( leave for as long as )

glue?

OK, overlap is halfway between deflecting joist. Fatty jumps up and down on joist, does jizzed join deflect?

Over board ceiling

When a joint on joist is pressed down it has high angular forces , their are none in the middle
