Overskims etc with no PVA

Used Knuaf version of the new wonder plaster this week this week and have to say the finished job is very good.
How it works:firstly set up areas you are going to plaster, bead scrim or papertape then fill out beads and scrim/tape.
Then spray base coat and flatten, trowel or spat.Leave 24 hours.
Spray top coat and flatten in fairness this gear did spray really well so hardly needed a great deal of work.
The next day lightly sand any marks out.

The good thing about this gear is that (the only way i can describe it is its similar to self levelling but on the walls) it actually dries smooth.

I have got to say i was sceptical about what Knauf were claiming this stuff could do but the finish is pure white and looks very good.
Now the downside this material is so is easy to use spray, flatten sand,it will just dumb down the trade even more because basically you could train someone to do this in a month tops!

Ok that's my review of the product out the window :RpS_thumbsup:

KTF

The sanding is just to take out slight imperfections, just a light rub as this gear dries relatively smooth.
This if it takes off will make the trade even more semi skilled.
After spreading for 30 years I was The biggest sceptic but you can see the bigger companies using it cos they will be able to train scool leavers in a couple of months to do this and cut there overheads

Well lets have it right skimmin isnt rocket science, so your saving time not using PVA but its taking it back off you coz youve got to go back and sand?

Started out talking about BG stuff and the idea is no PVA, go over different backgrounds all at the same timewith maybe a little water on very high suction backgrounds just to hold the suction back a little. One thing is for sure and that is not using sandpaper to finish it off

Fu6king awesome.

Joiners and builders have nicked half the trade by doing all our boarding...now poxy decorators are gonna be doing the spreading.....

Unfortunately that maybe the case cos as i said this stuff actually does work, and as much as i hate to say it,it could make the site work side of the trade semi-skilled.
As warrior said somewhere in a previous thread you got to go with the times and not bury your head in the sand.

Used to be used for skimming browning and some other high suction backgrounds. It was very thin in texture, almost oily and polished up a dream.

Carlite Finnish? I liked it' as dan said came up a dream, long gone History now:RpS_thumbup:

Personally I didn't like to mix the fecking stuff, much harder to knock the lumps out using the plodger although it did get over high suction nicely.

unfortunately this is what happens in most industries. The emphasis is on sourcing labour as cheaply as possible and using technology to de-skill the workforce. Just look at web design for instance. I used to know well skilled web developers 15 years ago that made an alright living, now they're fcked. Anyone can design a website now and get it working properly.

I thought this was a wind up at first, but as it's true it makes me think I'm going to get out of plastering in the next 5 years. It's insulting enough that we have no collective protection like other trades and we have to work for lower rates whilst busting our backs. People on here might take the pisss out of sparks, but at least they've got together and fought the big construction companies to make sure they don't get any more de-skilled and paid less.
