you cant do that amount in a day he s done you like a kipper as i say a decent bedroom in a day is all you shud expect.he s probably one coated not two and barely trowelled it.he s a cowboy end of story do not let him back im sorry to say this and its wrong you have been done.hire some big boys to have a word about repaying you

what?????:-0 he did the lounge, hall stairs and landing and a study on his own in a day, that has got to be one coat quick flatten then...........well proberly just that to be honest, that list of things that needs redoin says dnt get him back again that is too much to be redone, even if you sim ontop of what stays up the bond between that dodgy pva might not take the weight of another 2 coats of skim

He cant really blame the PVA coz it dont stretch that far unless he watered it down 40-1 which is probably whats caused the problem. Unfortunetly unless he can reimburse you to get it redone i dont think its worth getting him back but i suppose he deserves a chance. I take it back dont get him back and try and get some money off him to put it right .

Thanks for all responses. Some excellent advice.

Just to summarise:

PVA stored in cold conditions.
Too much done in one day.
Poor finish - Bad workmanship.
Re-skim, not just patch in.

I'll report back with findings, but thanks again for the advice.

Cheers!

sounds like hes done more harm than good. good adhesion is the first concern then finish. was he working alone? either way your back to square one.

Yep, working alone mate. Adhesion, and PVA in particular the problem I believe. I will be doing the PVA'ing myself when he comes back.

New to this forum!......So he doesnt do plastering for a living anymore. I wonder why?? Its scary that these boys are out there. And on recommendation! Get your money back.

The plasterer is 'acknowledging' the fact that the pva being left in the car could be to blame for these problems as if it deflects the blame from him somehow. It doesn't alter the fact that he left a poor finish - in 4 days for a grand, and I would be surprised if he actually pva'd it all anyhow. AND a good tradesman would have insisted you provide some power for decent lighting & heating.:RpS_thumbup:

Whether you bite the bullet & start again, or pursue him to repair it all is up to you mate, good luck.

agreed get your money back and get a pro in, say he re skims it and its still shockingly bad then you have to have it done a third time not only is this time consumeing but the weight that knackerd pva on the origian reskim you have up now will be hanging out its arse for grip, you could get more problems than you originally had if you get him back in.
honestly mate as i said if i naused up i would want a chance to rectify but on that larger scale even i would say i dnt deserve a second chance

Summed up very nicely there mate. Thanks for everyone's advice though, all taken on board.

It's not the pva mate it's bad workmanship!!!!
Sounds like he gave everywhere a very thin coat of pva then just one coated the lot!

Was there any limewash/distemper on the ceilings or any of the walls that he did?
As this would have needed a coat of stabilising solution before pva'ing or applying a bonding agent.

yer theres no way u could prep and skim a living room hall landing and study in a day unless its in a wendy house

feel for ya thou after painting the place and handing him the cash

but no disrepect to you but does shown that a good spead is worth his wait in gold
cause althou he only cost a grand and not done job propley were as a gd spead wooda charged more took more time but 98% sure they wood not of ad to bin called out to repair a job that should of bin done propley in the first place

was he a tidy spread ?

i highly doubt it was all unibonded anyway if the pva got frozen up he wouldnt have had alot of it to work with, i bet he tried to knock it up and use it on mabey one area then got the hump and thought fcuk em and did it without

this is why joe public are very unsure about inviteing trades men into thier houses pricks like this fcuking it up for all of the professionals who want a job and a liveing
