Plaster fireplace

Hi all, I am looking for some advice.

I had a leaky chimney and damp got in to the plaster inside the fireplace hole where the log burner sits and also went into the plaster at the front of the fireplace.

I am about to take the plaster back to brick and was wondering is it possible to dot and dab the front of the fireplace or even batten it and screw plasterboard into the battens or is it a fire risk to do this?

And with regards to the inside of the hole which I am going to take back to brick, what is the best way to finish it off. Can you get a fireproof plasterboard or do you render it?

Many thanks just been looking at this stuff.

Are you able to paint the render once dry or do you need to use the vitcas heat proof plaster after the render and then paint that?

Just checked and you can paint the render once dry so will do that.

Anyone have any ideas on if you can dot and dab or batten the front of the fireplace.

Just wondering if I dot and dab it whether the adhesive will fail with heat and if I batten the front out and screw boards to it just wondered if it is a fire risk.

Render front with sand cement lime, shy away from anything gypsum based.

Use Vitcas Heat resistant plaster, very expensive though

My fireplace is back to the brick and untidy. To save myself the effort I'm having it lined with a skin of bricks tomorrow. Looks cosy too.

Do it in fat lime render never fall off even with flames lick it (trust me )
