So why is it quite often when you reskim a artex ceiling the fukin **** paper tapes come off.Or ypu go to look at a job and the paper tapes have dropped.

Thats Artexers for you, not plasterers! They tended to use the brown tape and should have soaked in water first. I'm guessing this was not always done.
Plaster paper tape jobs I've done (white with perforations) I've never had a problem with cracks and never ever soaked any in water but I bet there's plenty of lads on here had cracking with scrim?
has anyone used the wet n stick stuff?

diddnt flynny do a job a little while ago that was all paper tape im sure it was flynny

Papertape covers all the joint wheras cloth only helps to reinforce the actual plaster. As for the ''why is it that the tape falls off artex ceiling when reskimmed'' that is due to the artex that it is placed with. I was told the building regs info by a rep from one of the manufacturer's by the way. It was the 1st I'd heard of it and I'm not even sure that it is in force yet.

tapes were bedded in artex ,get a water leak and tapes get soaked at joint (also softening the artex )

problems :

jointing with too thin a bed of artex or fast set.
possible poor caulking over tapes after fixing (next day) or quicker with fast set

brown tape was what we used at first (as per course 1993)but we changed to white perferated and found it better with less problems

regarding plastering i always scrim joint but if taping joint works for you ...
