no mate we wear em in on backing coats ........he's not joking mind to get a half decent finish you need a decent worn in trowel :)
I know i have already read it on here, what do you reckon for me to get the trowel ready as i am gonna have ago next week when i have the time..

cheers :)

the problem with backing coats being used less and less and more plasterboard being used is that some plasterers dont see a render job for years...
hence the new 'pre worn in etc' trowels...
or is that just me being nice to marshaltown and tyzack for essentially taking advantage of the new trend where 'everyones a plasterer'?

no plastering trowel needs to be 5 inch wide , if its needs to flex a little make it thinner and narrower ??? it will take 5 years plus to wear in a new skimming trowel (if ss ) to where it wants to be after that it takes another 5 years before it starts to go out of shape , so make one thinner ,it wont last as long and you sell more trowels in the long run ??? simples .

i had a bit of a crisis a little while ago over the 'preworn' tyzack ss i bought and went out and bought a ragni 14 cos its what i was used to before i got the tyzack..
things had 2 outings and gone back in the van before 2nd trowel.. just cant bloody well get on with it!!!
the handle feels all funny, the blade too long and too stiff.. so im a tyzack man for the minute till i get a big rendering job and i can teach the ragni a thing or two.. :-[

you can use a trowel right out of the box but you will find you get a few more lines when laying on and your finish might feel a little rough to the touch but its getting painted/tiled so just get on with it have a go lash the whole room on with one massive gorilla tub full ;D a pre worn trowel will help a little

Never mind backing coats to wear your new trowels in just do a couple of decent sized screeds with them and they know who's boss.

Paint walls m8, that will highlight blemishes then use easy fill or velvet to touch up let dry then a light sand
