Hi, I started work on a bathroom this morning and when I was removing the tiles it also pulled off most of the plaster I've uploaded 2 pics so you can see what I mean. I've never come across this grey plaster before and I'm not sure if I need to chisel it back to the breeze block as most of it is quite loose and I don't think skimming it would be a good idea. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

the plaster looks like carlite browning to me. if it is loose i would take the lot off. bathrooms are an expensive room to fit out and tile , you do not want any problems.
the tiles look like they have been tiled over tiles.

Why don't you just knock it all off back to the brick and board it. Just tell the punter that the walls are f**cked and that you wouldn't want to tile over the top and couldn't guarantee it, that you need to get a plasterer in first. If he says no, walk away. There's loads of thread on here regarding bathrooms. Here's one that you can read through and just repeat the salient points to the punter:

Don't bother trying to dab it yourself, unless you've hit him for a good price. You could be elsewhere making money tiling rather than f**king about with drywall which is horrible and gets everywhere:RpS_thumbdn:

If you can get him to pay for the plastering you'll also hook up with a local spread who might pass some tiling work and customers your way.:RpS_thumbsup: Throw it all back at the punter, he can't expect you to know that half the wall would come off when you tried to knock off the tile.

Thanks for your advice I'd say 80% of it is loose and yes your right it has been over tiled I think the best thing to do would be to get in a plasterer and get the job done right.cheers
