Hi

I have been renovating a house from scrath and had new double glazing windows fitted. I have plasterboarded upto the recess but i am unsure how to plaster up to and around the windows up to the pvc edging to get a neat, correct finish. The windows have big recesses around them and the walls are big old stone walls.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks, Wilma

dot and dab boards up to the face of the wall and tight against the window... put bead on wall and board then plaster... the dot and dab board will give a good straight edge if you cant just float it out ::)

prolly best to float with waterproof render if theyre solid stone with the possibility of penetrating damp..
or metal stud and board if theres room.. (sometimes a box sash when ripped out leaves about 100mm of face brick/stone showing before the edge of the window)

Hi - thanks for everyones replies, i will have a detailed read in a minute but wanted to upload the pics, there are a few i will pick the ones that show my dilemma best and perhaps posta couple of replies with each image. There are three bedroom windows and 1 living room window. Any further advice based on these images would be great.

See they were made to fit then.............not!!. Looking at the pic, your'e gonna have to make a internal
corner, then plaster to the frame / return to the frame,if you know what i mean :)

Did you rip out wooden shutters, because that's one hell of a gap. If you did, then shame on you! I'd use some thick insulation board if I were you or you're going to get cold bridging.

There were no wooden shutters just old windows which the window company replaced with double glazing, the walls were stone walls already, no boarding over them. I have boarded and got close to the windows but didnt know what to do to get to the windows. Your right, the recess is big, the insulation idea sounds a good idea - i'll look in to insulation board then and also how to do an internal corner. Thanks for the tips to start me off in the right direction - sounds like i have my work cut out.

just plaster upto it and stick plastic around it like you would do with architrave round a door.

OK thanks everyone, i will go with the stud work idea. When i board up to the pvc windows the board will be at an angle of approx 30 degrees, when it comes to plastering up to the windows will i need to scrim over the angled gap between the edge of the board and the window to stop the plaster from cracking? Or should i fill this in with bond maybe before the skim stage?
