plastering/rendering in New Zealand

quick update, been on hamilton hospital which is a hawkins project.

mainly T&J, boards are 3m x 1.2m. apparently the chinese/asians are working 12-13 hours p/day there creaming the work, and site manager (for hawkins, a scouse bloke) told me he cannot fault their work.

the gear they use is a seperate base coat, over paper tape and then 2 coats of finishing plaster then sanded down.
everything is made by Gib which is a NZ company that supplies everything and will even design boards on what you want, apparently BG and knauf have tried to break in to the market but Gib have the resources to undercut these until they give up.

the hospital is timber stud as thats what they have requested, and a company called place makers build the stud off site then send it on to be erected, they have boarded the wall frame/fire protection first above ceiling height, and jointed that before the walls/stud goes up and suspended ceiling goes in, like they have started building the wall from the top down, walls were spray painted on floor ready to come in and like said about a meter down from ceiling was in which would eventually covered with susp ceiling. dont know much more about it really, as its more crylining than plastering.

suppose to be having a few days out with a plastering firm to get a better look at how they work, try and let you know how it is.

there is no skimming or roughing & skimming or D&D here, all T&J and very neat tidy boarding/drylings

rendering is not so big, but they do, do it. very little S&C and floor screeding, the render is like a one coat stuff, goes on at around 4-5mm so i'v been told but yet to see.

hope this helps, cheers
mac
