Polystyrene Tiles plaster over?

Hi lads. I have a kitchen ceiling to skim only thing is its got polystyrene tiles on it. I've tried scraping them off but they wont budge .Is it okay to plaster over ? I'm trying to think of reason why not but can't think of one. What do you think?

Why? I'm thinking a tight coat of bonding then skim. Oveboarding is out because it would take the ceiling down past the tops of units etc.

Even if you get the tiles off you need to get the blobs of glue off. I Re skimmed one years ago and went over the blobs. The glue came through after a few months. Overboard is the answer

I've said I can't reboard because it brings the ceiling down to low. They wouldn't be able to open the wall unit doors there that tight to the ceiling. The only thing I can think is to go over. That or try and get them off with a steamer or a blowtorch. I would leave t normally but I've done the rest of the house so I can't just tell them to get someone else in. Should be doing outside work in this weather not this crap

Can't see why it wouldn't be okay. You can dab thermaline on and it's okay so I think bonding would be the same.

Crack on. Take pictures and stick them up when you're finished :bananahappy:
I will I'll give it a go tomorrow. The tiles are rock solid otherwise I would take them off and the ceiling is to low to board over. Just thinking outside the box for another solution. Thought someone might have had similar in the past. I might as well try going over them. If it doesnt work then I might have to take the whole thing down.

remove ceiling completely and re-board it , i would not advise applying bonding then skim not a chance of it adhering to polystyrene and if it does it won't be up in two months time !

This has got to be a wind up if it isn't I think its time to pack it in pal..we did a kitchen ceiling with them tiles on a couple years back and it took young lad half hour to get off a kitchen ceiling of about 40m2..blowtorch them off haha

I was always told not to board over polystyrene tiles because of the fire hazard.
Just scrape em off man!

Use a spoon there are that easy to get off! The fact he's asking If he can bond over polystyrene and skim is worrying

I know I'm generally a "lurker" but trying to be more a active member...
Is there much point in asking for advice then arguing against what's been suggested?
May as well avoid getting rsi and crack on...
