chipped off a house last year and it was a bitch , the back had the original wetdash which had been gone over with cement boards backed with 50mm polystyrene screwed & glued.
gable had been latted then meshed then s & c, then gone over the same boards as the back !!! but the front just had a 75mm coating of what looked to me like a cement based render but it was ful of small polystyrene balls, i take that it was for insulation.
any of you lot know the name of the stuff ?

ive used something like that on the new ewi render systems. we chucked a couple of handfuls in the mix of the base coat to bulk it up where any thickness was required.

cheers :RpS_thumbup:, from what the owner said she reckoned it had been on about 5 years b4 she moved in, its an excouncil house and the polystyrene balls where right through the render then it had a textured paint on top..

ye thats similar to what we do,, but put the base coat & scrim onto the rockwool boards then texture the it. The base coat isnt usually applied that thick so the poly balls are added to give you abit of thickness like i say. could also add to the insulation i suppose aswell

The product you have seen is an insulated render. Its soft as doodah and a huge sack is only 10 kg
Marmorit in the Uk have a similar product called Flotto. We have used a German version called damnputz that was used as a light weight basecoat. We achieved depths of 80mm in a day and when it set we layed monocouche over it.
I have checked the job recently and it is solidly bonded to the wall.
There are other products that have poly balls in them but they set much harder and can be decorated with a thincoat texture.

lup is the cement based one paul its not an insulating render . Flotto says it is an insulation render but dunno what its for when used in that capacity.
as a render for building out thicknesses that damn putz was hardcore and it makes sense to have a soft coat on variable backgrounds that thick

warm wall is an insulated render system with eps balls in it. they sent us through a vid and it basically consisted of a load of basecoat mixed up with a bean bag and voila insulated render system( at 100mm perhaps) these types of renders are best for reveals where cleareance is minimal

so the house did have a thermal upgrade and you have pulled it off? what you going to replace it with?

i told customer b4 we started that she should have something similar put back on, got her loads of info about different systems to use :RpS_thumbup:, told her to let me know.
3 weeks later she phones and says could i give her a quote s & c dashed , we can advise but they dont always listen !

some peolpe are crazy, she had somehing that she prob cannot afford and then ripped it off and is now considering a sand and cement? what a massive step backwards!
could it not just have had the finish coat upgraded with a more attractive thin coat?

the boards that were on the back and gable were well f<cked they had all sorts living behind them :RpS_unsure: i saw ants, wasps & a bat. on the front she was having problems with damp and she had had the front painted but it had started to get great bubbles full of water under it :RpS_bored:, so i think she was at that point were she had had enough !

This is my whole point when i rattle on about these systems being done by any ole pole or anyone who can hold a trowel, if it aint done properly big problems can occur its not like plastering where bag of filler for a tenner will fix most problems, if a render system goes wrong it can be tens of thoushands to put the right with scaff mats etc. who ever fitted this mate must have cocked it up good n proper, bats living inside it? what ever next.

didnt you say it had only been done around 5 years too

sorry for the delay, our lass been up from manchester so ad others things to spend me time on :RpS_sneaky:, client said that she was told that the front had been on for a couple of years b4 she bought the house, which would be about 5 years. the gable that had laths meshed building paper renderd then poly backed cement boards on was where i found the bat .
its an ex council house so i think they been trying differnt methods out on it :glare:. theres another 4 houses that have been done the same, and one that some one has put a thin coat dash system over the cement boards but that has started to crack along the board edges now,,,,,,,,:RpS_thumbdn:

Exterior render systems are b*ll***s, ive seen enough of them now to convince me , maybe when fitted correctly they have half a chance but i dont get the concept of insulating your house from the outside even though ive looked into the proven U Values and benefits it dont add up to be worth its while its only use is for the moment is for housing associations to waste loads of money letting Poles bodge these systems, ive seen Rats burrow through and nest in the insulation, not for me

Been using the alumasc MR system (think it's swisstherm) F*****g hate the scrimming, but the dashing coat is excellent like ice cream
