Problem with a Plaster ceiling I just hired out... Any advise?

What kind of plaster did he use? And what board did he plaster over?
I don't know the brand I wasn't here when he did it, I also don't know the brand of board I bought it 5 years ago, I know it was not the sheetrock brand. It was however the board intended to be installed prior to plaster, I believe it's typically called veneer board. The sheetrock brand equivalent would be called imperial.

Wtf is general contractor? Multi trade? Site agent? Builder?
It's what we're typically called in the States.. The General Contractor is hired for a job and is responsible for the entire job but hires out specialty work that the General Contractor does not do..

So basically a contract manager/site agent

So basically your a builder that gets the job and if you can't do a certain trade you get them in to help? I thought America was all tape and joint myself, have you heard of Kirk gio can't remember his name maybe he could help he in America

Yes, I mostly get renovations/remodel jobs not a whole lot of new construction. It mostly is drywall systems but we still do plastering, more often in higher end homes..

Mud not plaster to this chap please. I used to work for an American who called his son BJ. True, not taking the p1ss.
Mud not plaster to this chap please? Not sure I follow what you are saying.. If you are trying to insinuate that mud/joint compound was used and not Plaster then no you are wrong.

I always thought it was all dry line systems in the US?? There have been a few Americans on here but I can't recall there usernames. They posted some decent work tho. Looked great in fact. My mate has a firm in Miami and does specialist flooring. Did Miami airport too.

Some do phenomenal work yes.. Swirled ceilings are popular here as well and to do that right it has to be done with plaster so we definitely have a call for good plasterers... I would like to get into learning the trade myself as there is a big call for it due to the lack of people doing it but the workability time scares me (45-60 minutes). I know they have retarders to slow down the set time but idk, maybe I should try a small room sometime...

Do they not have training centers or collages like we have in the UK to learn it from somebody who knows what they are doing?

If they do they are definitely not as common as over in the UK. All the plasterers here either brought the trade with them from Europe (mostly Italians) or learned it from working with someone else.

Sounds like he should have used some watered down weld crete or plaster weld on the boards?
The Italian stucco companies use quartz primer to kill the suction and give a key.

Lost in translation across the pond. Plaster is plaster here too. Don't get involved in jointing compound, that's seen as more of a DIY thing here. I worked as on oil trader in the mid to late 90s in London, they tried transferring me to the main US office in a place called white plains in New York. I jacked the whole thing in and became a plasterer. Parents were overjoyed.
