Hi new to this forum and my first post!

Just started a job skimming an old flat, walls are flat and straight enough to be skimmed without an undercoat so pva'd first 2 walls today then 2 coats of multi finish. All was fine but it did start to take up reasonably quick, when it came to first water trowel parts of the finish where coming off the wall and so was the pva! Also some small areas had crazing/cracks. Never had this problem before any help would be much appreciated!

Wallpaper paste residue.. perhaps....
or to much suction..
welcome to the asylum.:RpS_thumbup:

Just been reading about distemper could this also be the problem? I'm not to sure how to recognise if the walls are distemper or not. Just worried incase the walls I've skimmed aren't sound aye may be blown

Too strong a PVA mix perhaps. Maybe it just sat on the surface instead of sinking in.

On really high suctions background you need to start with a weak solution and make them stronger in subsequent coats as the substrate becomes more sealed.

suction i reckon, Dmac's got ya solution with weak pva 1st..................welcome to T' forum marra

Mark Bond is all about suction..................Sucking jobs from the forum......................:rolleyes)

if it is distemper then you have got a problem.
how to recognize distemper, wet your hand and rub it on the area , if it comes off onto your hand then it is distemper.

Read that Stabaliser is the solution for distemper then pva once dry?

you can use a stabailizer or a coat of pva left overnight will seal the walls . you must pva again before you skim.
do not do this on ceilings they must be overboarded.
