Why do we have quiet periods?

im having one at the moment....is it weather related? Bad timing after the Christmas blow out?

I mention weather as do people really want a tradesman walking in and out the house when it's freezing cold, windy rainy etc

please no comments like "Im always busy" as I'm not bothered and you're not answering my question

cheers

Typical stupid answers as usual....from the guys who are always busy yet they spend most their lives on this forum

I am noticing a lot of plasterers are still looking for work... yet up and down the country a lot are very busy....

Mind you it may be something to do with the people you target... soe live from pay day to pay day.. so they have money only for a week or so of the month where as the slightly better off people have money 90% of the time...

If your bored get out and get leafleting or go to some networking groups.. if at the very least it gets you out of your house :-)

How long does it take to stick a post on here? Less than minute. Could be during crib, lunch or while taking a poo in the site loo. What is it to you how long people are on here? It's not costing you anything.

it can be a myriad of reasons, luke. as many as there are stars in the universe or grains of sand on a beach. are you mostly internal or external? do you rely on others to give you work or do you pro-actively seek it? do you have a website? do you advertise? are you on mybuilder, check a trade etc? how long have you been established? maybe you should sit down and do a health check on your business and see how you can attract more customers. or perhaps you just have hit a quiet spell. enjoy the time off while you can. when your back at work you'll be wanting some time off. it's the way it goes. i'm just glad to be finished early today. just been hanging around the aisles in asda eyeing up the milfs. things will pick up. use the force, luke :RpS_thumbup:

Yes, when we're busy, rushing from job to job, jobs waiting, people hassling you to get to them it's great then like the wind the work has gone, but like the wind it comes again, you need regular clients to keep you busy ,it's hard to map out a years work ,the site has delays due to planning, finance, architects, designers, neighbour disputes, council disputes ,waiting for materials which can take up to a few months for specialist stuff or even bricks on occasion, then it's the abc of trades, carpenter, sparky, boarders, then spreads, its a dance that we do and it's hard to have it all linked up, I keep getting schedules from builders developers when I price,(starting render5th April ) etc finished top floors 23rd April when in reality I might start the job in August , don't wind yourself up we all have down time don't be a child either ,it's an adults reality world of work not for petulant children,

if you are desperate for money, phone a large plastering contractor, they will have work. the target will be very tight, stoppages for tax, citb, you will get paid every week. just not much of it.

We all have quiet times,if you think you can survive financially until you next get some work then relax and enjoy your time off,or you could use the time to try to find ways of drumming up business, call some builders and introduce yourself, business cards in windows etc,it can't hurt and putting a bit of effort in to "free" advertising can give you a bit of hope and piece of mind that it won't be long till the work comes rolling in again.:RpS_thumbup:

Come on now Luke no need for that , a lot that spend "most of their lives on this forum" pass a lot of work to each other, when it comes to the gaps in your workflow learn from experience and prepare for the next time it happens. There is heaps of advice on old threads on here about finding work, have a read bud , some hidden gems in the archives :RpS_thumbsup:

If you ever find yourself quiet in December, Santa always needs extra helpers. Not sure what he pays but the work is really appreciated, especially by the little children.

I love the quiet times......I always promise people stupid deadlines.
Quality time with the family.
(If they can find what saloon im in).

Team up with a mate plastering for a while ??

Agree with 1 and 2 but 3 is b*ll***s.

I always heard "a good spreads never out of work" which is b*ll***s.

I'm a pretty good spread and i've had several times i've missed a week here and there. Admittedly not for much longer than that but thats only because i have people i can call on if i needed work. Not everyone has that option.

obviously its a tad tongue in cheek mate....and I don't think a week hear ant there without week is classed as a quit period that's just normal I recon:RpS_confused:

there is always times that you will be out of work if you are a lone dog.
you have to build up a large group of customers then you will always have a few jobs on the back burner. i do go out of my way to keep my customers happy.
i come from a large family of plasterers, there are 8 plasterers in my family, i know that within a couple of phone calls my gang would have work.
that is why i am always busy, it is engineered that way.

Get in touch with dougie he could maybe use a whinging little punk in his next vid or start your own vids call yourself speedwinge!!:flapper::RpS_lol:

We all have them, I'm the best spread on this forum and still get them in fact it's gone a little quiet on the phone for me last 3 weeks, then today I looked at a job that will keep me busy for months :)

Theres no such thing as a "quiet period"

Well not in my house ...an "angry period" maybe.

Or a "I ******* hate you" type of a period.

Just put your Adcar costume on in down times. And do all his work:RpS_thumbup:

Luke you hav to be prepared for abit of abuse on here n unfortunately you set yourself up for it with your question lol. Heres how I get my work I have a few contacts as in small builders n mates in the building trade but I get alot of my work of a bigger contractor I use to work for he has the plastering on 2 sites so its regular work but we had a quiet January he had nout so I put a deal out for skimming rooms out on my Facebook page and it got me 3 til 4 days a week the whole month so if its not coming you have to actively source it me n my mate were out on are own and it can be hard getting all your own work thats why I opt for working for a boy and fit my own jobs round his I appreciate my free time so have no interest in getting all my own work hope thats helpful

We all have sore bottoms, I'm the best felcher on this forum and still get men in fact it's gone a little quiet on the phone for me last 3 weeks, then today I looked at a man that will keep me busy for months :)
