I agree thats why I think something needs doing. skimmers have flooded the indusrty over the last decade and now the plasterers are high and dry with them! and partly the reason why i try and stick to the externals

got a cscs obviously altough i cant justify paying for the luxury of knowing not to climb a crane after i return to site from the pub. I would pay for a qual card IF and a big if - you were only given work based on having one meaning joe pole didnt get the job cos he was cheaper

The CSCS card does what you say "you were only given work based on having one", site work.

problem is that there are no apprenticeships these days, and the ones that are about they wanna pay you peanuts after you've served your time. its understandable with the way things are at the moment but like many people have said you have to spend money to make money, so why not spend money on skilled people up. surely this is something the government should be looking at rather than bringing in unskilled workers form other countries! then again keep em coming cos sorting there crap out is what keeps me going at the minute.

The last apprentice i had left 2 weeks ago because he didn't think he was on enough money. I wont have anymore because you train them up and then there off. They get there papers and think they should be on top money . He was on 300 a week employed, cant drive, no tools, so please don't whinge about us paying peanuts. The training school get paid for training but what does the employer get unless you are a member of the citb.

last lab i had never seen a trowel before but he wanted 50/ day i told him when i left school i got 40 and that was for a week so he worked one week and then jacked never bothered with em since

i completely agreed with you simply, £300 a week for a newbie isnt bad at all especially as he's probably still living at home with no bills. but there are people out there whio do take the p##s. a lad i no has just done his 3 years in college working for a spread 4 days a wk, works almost every wkend for peanuts and the fella has just ofgfered to keep him on at £150 a wk!!! and hes a good lad aswell

can we not do something about it then? if them thick (french word)ers can look after each other then so can we.

i worked in ireland 4 about 6 years and one day i went on to a site looking 4 the start got it, 3 psm set up my flat water, bags 4 flights of stairs.
on the way back to the car i meet this other spread there was no hello mate or nothing he just said
are u in the union , i replied errrrrr... no what do u mean .
with that he walked away ,i went home next day i come in 6.30 am had £ signs in my eyes walked in my flat ,someone had stabbeb my water butt water all over floor all the bags had been sawn in half and kicked aruond the room i turn aruond and there is this guy there and he said to me again are u in the union i am still in shock looking at him and i say no and he said lets get u sorted .
i filled out some forms and paid him 10 a week thuoght i was getting scammed but he said if u need work ring me and gave me a sheet of prices that i had to stick to and if any site agents tried paying less we had to repert them to this guy or if other plasterers wernt in the union .
it wasnt till i ran out of work i gave this guy a ring and told him i had noyhing for monday he rang me back an hour later and had me the start on monday well impressed he then rang me every week to make sure we had it
i also heard this unionn went on site and stopped the running of the site if they had non union people on them or working cheap what im trying tosay is b.a staff and car manafacters and industraial wrkers have um why not us

because unfortunately in this country it seems that lately the eastern europeans, who will work for f-all, seem to have more rights than us. so if someone went onto a site to stop them working then they would probably be arrested. probably some b*ll***s to do with human rights.

Plastering imo is semi skilled, skimming takes 6 weeks to get to a good standard with a helpful tutor. Don't get me wrong i'm a plasterer too, a good one aswell.
W@nkers like this. talking s**t like this. devalue our trade and bring down the prices.
