Re rendering Victorian stone wall

Hi, the walls in my garden are in need of serious attention, all the render is blown, it looks to me like they at some point have been rerendered using cement and this has not allows walls to breathe and subsequently caused it all to fall off!

I would like to knock this old render off and redo it in lime so that the wall can breathe as it was originally intended. I really have no idea where to start, any advice would be most welcome. I will attempt to include a picture of the wall:

Google lime render and you will find suppliers who will give you a spec.

Usually it is 3 coats a strong mix with course sand, slightly weaker with not so course sand, then a slightly weaker mix than the second and finer sand.

You could make it all simpler and use K Rend. They do a ready mixed range of lime mortars.

Hi retroport, no it's not a retaining wall, the picture shows the wall side that's in the alleyway, the garden side is just as bad tho. I don't want a flat smooth render I literally just want it as it is now but not falling apart lol!
What lime mix would I use for this and what technique?

Hahaha. The point is lime work is a specialist area of plastering.

By your own admission you don't know where to start........so perhaps phoning an expert would be the best place to start.

Why don't you just knock the render off and leave it stone...or grow a creeper up it?

Make sure you put copings on the top first
