Rendering Advice - South Glos, Bristol

Hello,

Looking for advice on what would be the best render to use for our bungalow.

The bungalow has old pebbledash which will need to be removed and the whole bungalow (and new extension) completely rendered.

I have had a few quotes but I honestly do not know what the best one is. All the other neighbouring bungalows have newish render and all sand and cement. We live in quite a ‘green’ area and really want to stay away from a render that will encourage it to go green so I thought sand and cement would probably be the way to go? The neighbouring houses don’t seem to have any staining so far.

So far I have had quotes for...

K Rend
Weber rend aid base coat with sand and cement
Weber

The 3rd (complete Weber) seems to be more expensive but is it the best? One renderer mentioned using a mesh which made complete sense, should I be concerned that the others didn’t?

Open to any other types and advice much appreciated on what should be included.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

You will get mixed advice
But silicone thincoat system is the best by far

Krend is a bag of shite stay away, as @Tom81 said go for a thin coat silicone system, it’s not cheap but will serve you well
Big thanks! When you say thin coat silicone system what am looking for, is there a particular brand? So base coat with mesh etc and then thin coat silicone over?
Sorry I am a complete newbie here!

If it’s a green area sand and cement will suit u best. coloured render/ thin coat will all go green/dirty/shite looking in a year or 2 anyone tells u different there smoking crack

Polymer modified silicone thin coat system is essentially a modified sand and cement render,
The Base coat is pre-blended to a consistent blend and applied throughout the building with mesh embedded throughout, the surface is then primed and an acrylic/silicone texture applied.

Monocouche meaning one coat soft chalky porous material, fast easy application making it extremely popular but s**t,

Sand and cement just a primitive version of thin coat inconsistent mix no mesh shity masonry paint on the surface.

Sorry but that thin coat acrylic render is nasty an isn’t designed for our harsh weather, any stains it’s done! If you want something that will last.. go down lime render or sand an cement. I’m witnessing way to many new sites looking 50 year old already an my grans dry dash council house is looking bang on haha!

It's mono your looking at!

There is nothing wrong with a mono finish if the application is right, if its sealed on completion.
the misconception with any type of render is it’s sold as maintainence free, they aren’t, as any with any facade they pick up dirt and will require cleaning as and when required.siicone renders, mono renders there all fit for purpose they are just a different finish, all will stain given the chance particularly in a north facing panel.we apply them all in equal measure. Nothing wrong with a sand and cement finish floated either, but your going to be painting every 5 years.
Try and future proof any render against any possible staining down the line by looking at downpipes fixings, coping details etc.

Just watch for anybody trying to sharpen their claws on it let alone a passing wheelbarrow or wheelie bin, mono is wank

You can wash thin coat

half the chancers on here wouldn't have a clue what s & c is and would cry like a pussy if asked to do it...especially the 'site ready skim monkeys'
Mate I'm the first to admit I would curl one out in my pants standing back looking at a big detached house with three lifts of scaffold tons of sand and cement on on the drive and a little Bella mixer f*** that right off, leave it to the sand and cement lovers
Work smarter not harder

Owls ha got it right. Sand and cement? Your old pebble dash is sand and cement with pebbles chucked into it whilst wet and it lasts decades but is out of fashion.

As for Weber or K Rend they are just manufactures and are most.y good although K Rend Monocouche has a bad reputation but the rest of their gear isn’t, so don’t worry about brands, the applicator has their favourites, leave that to them.

Most of the modern finishes have a texture so will trap dirt even with treatmen, usually under sills and overhangs where running water can’t wash it off.

For me it would be a modern sand and cement such as for example Weber Rend aid with Weber OCR fully meshed finished flat and a silicone paint finish, no texture .

Yes, that. Use K-read thin coat system. Check their website for more info. Bomb proof finish
