it pays you to measure margins when plumbing beads oasis, even if you get a bead spot on it can look wrong if theres an exsisting bead thats is not right . hopes this makes sence.

thats just the soot, nothing to do with the pva mate, theres alsorts of nasty chemicals in soot you dont want to be ingesting..
best thing is to try and wash as much off as possible and rake out the mortar joints for a key, nothing likes soot.. not even other soot.. ;D

Chris i tried to tell oasis soots a b word to deal with and nearly always comes through the plaster with little damp looking patches.Ive tried alsorts of methods to remove it myself on my own chimney.Painting on Bitumen being the best method so far !!!

Seen it a couple of time where people have blocked off old chimneys a clear liquid bleeds through the plaster smells like ammonia , i spray soot with stabilex and leave it overnight

2 good tips there... anyone tried a needle gun? i havent but i just wondered if it would work?
my usual is to attack it with a wire brush and a kango and just mess the bricks up best i can to get something back and have the mortar joints out, thinish scratch etc..
tell you what, never mind asbestos - soot is evil stuff...
