Hey there, got an extension to roughcast and its thermalite blocks,i remember doing one few years ago and it dried in rapidly when top coating so chips wouldn't stick any suggestions?? sbr the block or between coats....cheers guys.

You could try ever build 3 in 1 put it on your top and bottom coats and give the wall a real good soaking before you put the second coat on.

Sbr the blocks and apply scratch whilst wet and tacky. The usual sharp sand with cement with a waterproofer and scratched.

When you put the second coat it might suck in. This because if you put a waterproofed scratch on a low or no suction background like sbr the waterproofer might not quite work. You will need to wet the scratch coat down to make sure there is no suction.

Personally I wouldn't want to be using a strong roughcoat mix (as normally used) onto Thermalite/Celcon type blocks. If I had to I'd deffo be fully meshing it.

yes defo dodgy celcons and thermalites. Some kind of barrier like sbr or pva or a weak mix like 6:1. Mesh for good measure or glass fibre strands.

I use weber ,s mesh ,you can get it from Minster supplies ,some of the other guys may know of cheaper one

It will depend on your budget, conscience and warranty given. If you have no comebacks then the chinese crap off ebay will do, will work for a while at least. Otherwise 5-8mm mesh.

SAS Europe makes an excellent mesh but it is mega bucks at £78 + vat + courier.
